    hi,
I bought the fuel filter in Thunder and the spark plugs at GM Q.A.

Regarding the EGR valve. Does it look like this??

Did you clean the egr valve by yourself or had it done by a mechanic??

Parang natatakot akong pakialaman ito as of now since mahal ang egr valve pag masira ko.

    Hmmm.

Hi, The plugs were I think a year old only. Wala pang 40,000km for sure, but the car is used everyday for short distances only.

yes boss! looks like the one posted above! my uncle helped me clean it! as per advice of the mechanic i know sa gm, sakit na daw ng astra ito. that's why dapat 93ron lang gas recommended para bawas carbon build up daw sa egr. wd40 lang, tapos reset ecu, gud to go na ulit astra ko!

i think its 30k daw for a new egr sa casa! hahahaha!

Pano linisin yung egr valve?? parang sealed kasi ito.

I think the EGR valve cost around P13,000.

btw, did have alignment done after your hub replacement?

no i didn't, kailangan ba? di naman ako sinabihan na kailangan magpa align, but personally i don't think it's necessary.

anyone in the forum can answer this question?

Hi, I have an engine knock problem now since I used regular unleaded gasoline.

I used to put in Petron XCS but Rene said to use regular unleaded gas. Now, I feel there is no power and that idling is very low and sometimes namamatay pa.

    What gas do you use??

Updated maintenance prices for the Zafira-Astra

    1) oil filter -- P300 Original GM
    2) Air filter -- P700 German Replacement
    or P500 Italian Brand
    or P900 Original GM
    or P5,000 K and N
    3) Spark Plug -- OPEL Germany brand P275 each

Pang Japanese car lang ang Prices!!

For the first 2 years i had my astra i used unleaded and experienced the same problems you had. Especially morning starts the engine would waver between 500-1500 rpm!

Then i found out that the suggested octane rating for our engine is 95. so i switched to velocity and the problem disappeared. Since then its either velocity or xcs. I tried petron unleaded mga 3 months ago when my egr was cleaned and the ignition coil replaced because elerick suggested it. pero mahina talaga sya pag 93 octane. I also did a little research and seems to be the higher the ambient temperature, you should go for a higher octane fuel. i'm going to try 97 octane [blaze] this summer.

two weeks ago i discovered that seaoil regular unleaded is rated 95+ so i tried it. No problem! It even seems to have better performance

    Thanks Manager!!

I agree with what you said. Di talaga pwede ang 93 octane gas. The owners manual states that 97 octane pa nga ang recommended for Ecotec engines and that it would be more fuel efficient by using this gas.

I will look into that Seaoil gas.

I hate that ECOTEC technology of GM cars.

Emissions is almost ZERO and we help the environment, but in effect, our cars consume more gasoline due to that EGR valve and that it needs high octane gas for a good combustion. Plus, that dreaded EGR valve breaks down easily due to the high dust and pollution of the Philippines. Ang mahal pa nito at around P13,000 yata. We even have a Catalytic converter and a restricted airbox which robs the car of power.

Kaya din malakas sa gas ang OPTRA since It has this ecotec technology.

Yun lang nga, pag nagpa-emissions test tayo. Sobrang baba ng Co2 reading na di makapaniwala ang tao.

sana tuloy tuloy na yung pagiging mura ng parts! and sana di lang yung mga PMS parts

do you guys think the k&n filter is a worth while investment? is this the kind of filter that you just clean (supposedly lasts for a very long time). recommended ba ito?

for my astra i use xcs but that seaoil sounds interesting, anybody know if there is one in the makati area?

i was considering using k&n pero for the price and the minimal performance boost, parang dadalasan ko na lang palit ng regular filter.

what i want to do is a ECU chip upgrade.

bat sakin baliktad nangyari? was using velocity before, tapos nagkaroon ako pinging sound sa engine. the check engine light ignited and i went to the casa to have it diagnosed. sabi nila dapat 93 octane lang gamitin ko. na-confirm pa sakin ng mechanic na dapat low rating dahil dun sa egr; pag sobrang taas octane, mas malaki chance na magka-carbon build up.

chip upgrade? nice! laki ba performance boost if you do that? bolt on lang ba and is it available here? any idea about the cost? anything else to be changed if you go that route?

Hi, That is exactly what Rene said. High octane gas would have higher carbon build up sa EGR so using lower octane gas is better.

What I will do is use high octane gas and just regularly clean the EGR, valve body and add some fuel injector cleaner occassionally.

Yun lang nga, there will come a time na di na malilinis ang EGR and eventually masisira ito to the tune of P13,000!!!

better keep it on 93ron then, boss. yung nga lang talaga, sluggish acceleration. ngayon naman, my astra's alternator is busted, ayaw mag-charge.
na-rerepair kaya itong mga ganito or should i buy a new one? huhuhuhu....

Ma-rerepair yan. Try to go to Fronte in Banawe or call them up. Baka magawan ng paraan yan or baka makahanap sila ng parts coming from some korean car or van.

I am sure mahal ang alternator na brand new..

i called mancor [ito yung caltex sa na malapit sa qc sports club] and they can do it. i'm not sure if they replace the chip or piggyback on the existing one. nung 2002 the price was around 20k
