HID Projector Retrofit on a '09 Strada:
Ok, let's look at the basics:
What is an HID Projector Retrofit?
It is simply mounting an hid projector inside the stock housing of a halogen reflector
headlight.
Why Retrofit?
To properly utilize the HID system which produces 3x more light than conventional halogen
bulbs, it is necessary to use hid projectors with hid bulbs. Using "plug and play" china made
bulbs produces so much glare causing safety concerns with oncoming traffic.
Doing a Retrofit harnesses all the advantages of a true HID system>> max light, minimum glare
above the cutoff.
The vehicle: '09 Mitsubishi Strada
The hid projector:
The bixenon FX projector. This is the similar to the projector installed in Nissan Infinity
FX35. Bixenon means there is a LO and HI output. The projector installed has a 100% clear lens
upgrade to make the cutoff more sharp.
Using Philips D2 hid bulbs, made in Germany:
and Denso D2S/D2R ballasts, made in Japan
completes the HID system.
After opening the headlights, the projectors are mounted and an oem shroud placed to cover the
mounting screws. The shroud are from E46 BMW.
Wiring:
I made custom harness for the system to protect the original harness. A simple schematic
I made:
and some actual pictures of the wiring:
All joints are soldered and double wrapped with shrink tubes and split loom, oem style.
Found a perfect spot for the relay, just behind the bumper. I used Bosch relay and a ceramic
plug.
Power to the ballasts is direct from the battery and male terminals are used to tap from
the stock H4 socket. No splicing on the harness.

Good thing that there is more than enough space under the hl for the ballast:
The retrofitted headlights
Sealed:
Testing the output:
Parklights. There is enough space left by the shroud to allow light from the stock
parlight to illuminate the hl which I think had a final good effect on the reflector
bowl. Parang sillouette, tama ba spelling?

Final outcome:
The output of the Philips bulbs is 3200 lumens for the 4300k bulb which is the stock
bulb temp which also happens to give out the most light on the road. Compared to the
halogen bulbs which at best can only churn out 1000-1200 lumens. This setup allows you
to utilize the best and latest in lighting technology without compromising the safety of
other motorists. Hope you guys like the project.

very nice... ang lakas at saka ang linis tignan ng head lamp. how much did it cost you?
thanks beni... the honeycomb grill was bought in thailand by our co-member brian. it is only for 2010 model i believe 2008/2009 yata sa iyo.
sir out, if you will look at the left picture, it has a sticker near the tail light. ano kaya iyon? wag ka nang maiinggit, darating din yung sa iyo. malay mo may mas magandang design ng grill na babagay sa bago mong strada. today is 28 so i guess kukunin nyo na mamaya? ingat and enjoy the ride!
thanks bro.
bro i did this for a Anthony T who's a member, I think of Strada Club.
Yung mga aftermarket hl na projector type sucks big timeI've disassembled and used many of those.
This complete system including projectors, philips germany bulbs, denso made in japan ballasts, wiring and retro service is around 30k lang!
