re coolant, i was right... toyota uses long life coolant and first initial top up is only expected after reaching 160,000 KMS. That is more than 5 years of normal use i think.

as for our ms...i checked with the manual and it says there that the NORMAL Level should be anywhere in between Low and High (reading taken at cold temp.). Then top up should only be done if it has reach below LOW level. And it is also says there that drop of level should not be noticeable under normal circumstances. If it happens that there is a substantial drop, then radiator should be checked immediately for possible leaks.

for our brand new cars, less than a year...it is just but normal not to touch or open those reservoir except for the windshield washer. And i think under normal conditions, those shoud be refilled during the future PMS schedule.

Again, as one tsikoteer mentioned, it is really not advisable to open the radiator cap and likewise the reservoir if coolant level are just but normal.

to be safe...don't be too much worried about the level of any kinds of fluids inside the engine compartment except the windshield washer. Next to windshield washer, is the battery since our MS comes with a battery than needs maintenance (topping up of distilled water), but again this should have its own schedule of topping up during PMS.

...these are just my own opinion which are all based on my experience...i never touched anything inside my engine compartment and never had any chance of engine troubles...
thanks for the info sir. like you said, the normal level is between full and low. considering the guy who posted this concern was getting ready for a trip, i thought it best for him to touch up for the long journey ahead...to be sure. and anyway, the mitsu guy said as long as the level is anywhere between the full and low markers, thats all right. i have mine on full all the time as ive done on all my previous cars and just the same, ive never encountered any engine problems at all.

so here are two schools of thought. i think the difference is incremental. bottom line is, both will work!

hope to see you again on our next eb! didnt get the chance to see your lcd monitor and custom matting!

nothing so special on my matting he he...but as mic said...ang linis tingnan daw. thanks for the compliment pres mic!

hu...if you like iphone, ipod, and usb-stored music and video files...you'll definitely like it avx826 by jvc. i don't know if it's true, i am one of the lucky ones who were able to get it at pre-launch price of less than P28K! Last sat, when i inquired from Goldrich, they are selling it at P40K!

but, as i have mentioned in my old posts, i still like a set-up wherein the screen is installed inside the console. for a 2-din dvd receiver hu like my avx826, no way you can have that recessed look. i really hope that there would be an available display monitor we could install with that console to have the oem look.

see you next grand eb...sorry but i cant make it this friday (mini eb scheduled by sir mic!)

The thing is, my coolant level is around 2 millimeters from the low level mark. Even though it is still between full and low, and as such normal, for me, it is too low for comfort. I'm sure the coolant in the radiator is OK as this is just the reservoir/reserve tank, or I think, more commonly known as "overflow". Just making sure everything will go well on our weekend trip.

As for opening the coolant reservoir, there is no problem at all. If you look closely, the reservoir has a breather tube on top (solid tube from mouth of the cap across the top to the edge). So technically, the reservoir "is always open" no matter what. Which might cause the change of level in the reservoir, although it is very minimal or unnoticable. Sadly, I was not able to check my initial level when I got my Montero from the dealership. So I have nothing to compare from then to now. As long as the reservoir has coolant, the radiator will always be a closed system. The connection to the radiator is under the reservoir.

    * fermontalban, you're welcome sir. hope you could join us on the next eb!

    * j*sto, thats exactly what mic told me about your matting - malinis tingnan, or clean-looking (for our foreigner friends...and that includes you ching haha). and he also mentioned that it extends underneath the front seats. so the custom extended cut plus the clean look got me interested! re lcd monitor, i too prefer the recessed type to capture that oem look. waiting for someone who has done this, and has connected it to a usb video player as i still want to maintain the oem jvc hu. i remember this was posted before already but has not yet done the setup if i'm not mistaken

sorry if i'm confusing you bro. certainly your montero's rims are the best I've seen so far.

I was asking for a dealer with most selection and pays the best for my stock rims and tires when I trade them.

I need some ballpark figures so I can negotiate a good deal.

For those who have traded theirs, how much were you paid for it?

    thanks again.

In terms of sourcing rims/tires for your new Monty, you have a couple of options:

    1) winterpine - that's where I bought the 22s for my Monty. last time I checked, their chrome 20s cost around 60k (rims only); and they can accept your stock rims and tires for trade-in for around 35-40k.

    Hope this helps sir.
    Thanks for the reply kapitan.
P40k lang pala trade-in nito? where can we find a better deal?

They have a cheaper one which is probably the equivalent of the Big bert's optiguard. They call it paint protection and i think it is more or less 6K for the initial application; 50% year after year re-application.

Personally, i have been using diamond gloss since 1995 (way back my first car) and have been very happy with the way diamond gloss protects the paint and maintain the wet look condition even without waxing for a year (which, waxing, is really not necessary).
Sir J*sto, please more details on the diamond gloss, where the location, and any web site ? and contact ?

Do they charge more for my 9 months old car ?

    Thanks

the reservoir has a pop-up lid that can readily be opened. never have i encountered a car with a sealed radiator reservoir. as far as i know, the purpose of the radiator reservoir with a pop-up lid is for, well, touch ups on the coolant.

as for a sealed radiator system, our monty, as do most vehicles ive encountered, has a radiator cap on the radiator itself. this negates the thought that its a sealed system.

by the way, thanks for your efforts in getting the info on mmpc's assigned tech man for our monty. that will help us all!
Sir stubby,.....did you check my babe coolant level ???

    Thanks

    * RevD, i called up winterpine earlier and talked to the lady agent (Angela) about their 20" rims. it costs 60K and about 110K with tires and for trade in? they will only get it mine for 20K

WenG2 got his 20" VCT/Nitto package at Ben's Ok banawe but he kept his stock rims. You might want to try them since their pricing is somewhat fair if you get their package sets. 90-95K for the 20s.

Freddie's at Evangelista also has package sets for 20's but its around 110K too. typically much lower compared to Concept One and Dub.

try the WD TV usb video player, it runs on 12 volts and can connect directly to a car lcd. check the thread about this topic at kotseaudioclub. someone also in the US has used the WD TV as a source. check this site

HAHAHA Don't say that! There are a lot more out there, just the other day, i saw a set of TIS in size 26s! Those are CRAZY!

Anyways, i was just teasing.. something stubby and i are trying to do to make the thread lighter and not so serious, hoping to make everybody join the fun.

Moving on... there are a lot of shops and what i heard is most will take in your stocks for about 20-30t. I think though unless you're just trading them in for chrome stock rims, i suggest keeping your stocks because
    1. its not worth to sell/trade them in, since a tire alone if you were to replace them would cost about 8t each?
    2. There will be times you'd want to use your stocks. ( travelling, repairs, when you sell the car, etc...)
For me, the 20-30t is not nearly enticing enough to sell the stocks.

I can't really refer shops, except of wheel gallery.. sponsor eh! hehehe And they've been really good to me. But there are a lot of shops.

You can check dub shop on timog.. tyre rack on ortigas..

But with tyre rack, you can just check out their rims for design and source it out somewhere else because i know their prices are a bit higher with the same merchandise. There are a few shops on west ave. that have ok rims.
