Mitsubishi to offer gasoline Montero Sport soon - News | TopGear.com.ph

    Gas engine pala! hehe

Kaso hindi ata below P1M since close to the 4x2 diesel variant. Me think around P1.350-1.4M flat.

Puwede pa rin naman na may diesel na P1M ang pricing. I think MMC is still looking at how the public is reacting. Alam na nila na pinag-uusapan yan eh. It's too important to ignore.

hi, i'm a lurker here and couldn't help but react to this news.

I have to say that Mitsu should do this. Instead of carrying so many models like fusion, asx, adventure, they could just offer a model like this and their market for the next 10 years will be very competitive. we all know naman that Mitsubishi's models are at least 10 years before being replaced.

imagine this car to be pitted with a Tucson, Sportage, CRV, Fortuner, and any other upcoming SUV like the Escape, Santa Fe 2 and others. The Filipino Family will always choose this kasi sa built pa lang sulit na sulit. no more addl. marketing expense on their end.

while other car brands are planning the next cars they're gonna bring, its marketing and sales structure from the international market, Mitsu will just offer a model like this.

this will be a wise move

A 2011 Montero GLX M/T with the non VGT 4D56 costs Php 1.3M. Note this is the configuration (mechanically) that this supposed sub Php 1M Montero would be equipped with.

Not to sound redundant, but what would have to go for the 300K reduction in price? Yes MMPC would have to strip off a ton of features (even the most basic) and yet it would still costs something like Php 1.1M.

A close and useful resource for comparison is the Innova J D-4D vs. Innova G D-4D M/T. Price diff. bet. the two is around 210K. But there is a noticeably big difference in the number of features that were stripped off.

My point is, they can strip everything off the Montero, yet there would be a not so significant price reduction. This "stripper" would help for those who really want a Montero in whatever form and at the most affordable price possible. But I'm guessing those accustomed to the basic power function in a vehicle are better off settling with the GLS or GLX instead.

Actually, this is good news for us. Kahit dati pa wishing na ko for a 'barest' Fort or MS. I like mine to have black bumpers, manual windows, kahit no body cladding pero i want stock tall height, para pang harabas or off roading talaga. I hope that non VGT 4D56 is an updated version of the old gen2 Pajero.

just out of curiosity, let me try:

black bumpers, no fender cladding, no power windows, no central door locking, front a/c only, non-VGT 4D56 engine, M/T, no foglights/auxilliary lights, steel rims

...or, worst case, old 4D56 engine (old generation pajero), M/T, retain dual a/c, steel rims, power windows, black bumpers, no fender cladding, no power windows, no central door locking, no foglights/auxilliary lights

if they can probably come up with about 50 units after firm orders/pledges from their dealers, then its a win-win situation for mitsu

curiously, ano ba engine ng L300 or adventure? suppose we slap their engine onto a montero, then remove all the trimmings, kaya ba ng below P1M? this ought to help keep the sales going until the next model change, kahit medyo ma-alienate ang higher-end market ng konti (besides, the 2012 montero is still selling pretty well anyway).

    To put things in perspective...

When the first batch of current gen Strada was launched in 2007, Mitsu had a lower 4x4 variant that had unpainted front bumpers, (rear had none), no body cladding, manual, etc... I don't think that sold well which explains why that variant was phased out quickly as soon as it was released. There is also a lack of examples of this variant that is plying the road these days.

The consumers here in the Philippines are not fans of unpainted bumpers, steel rims, etc...even if those cutbacks help reduce the entry point. Filipinos will instantly throw those steel rims out, paint the bumpers, and add those body claddings, etc... So instead of letting third party accessories shop flourish, Mitsubishi will probably slap these features back and sell it at a higher price. It is quite apparent that this is what the majority of the market wants (or are doing) anyway.

The Strada GL is now the most affordable at 870K and it is the mechanical and trim equivalent to this supposed sub 1M Montero. Even if equipped similarly, Mitsu will have to price the Montero at 1.1M to avoid stealing market shares from the Strada (otherwise everybody will just buy a Montero even if they don't need one).

PS: Mitsu enjoys brisk sales of these Strada GL (all in white, btw) to companies requiring these for fleet use (Meralco, San Miguel, Maynilad, etc...). There are also individual buyers of these GL but they quickly add the body cladding, upsize to Montero surplus wheels, etc.. Or they would simply go straight to the GLX.

    just for conversation's sake

how would it work if the body claddings, magwheels and probably body-colored bumpers are available as options? ...for a base price of 1.099M for the barebones montero. maybe even give discounts to buyers who would avail of a "premium" upgrade (which include the claddings, magwheels, color-keyed bumpers) that could push the price to maybe 1.2M or even 1.25M

the barebones 1.099M price should look affordable enough while leaving enough leeway to avoid marginally stepping on the strada's market

at the end of the day, its going to be a calculated risk. mitsu's monterosport can risk getting some of the strada's market as it tries to siphon the tucson's customers (which the asx can't seem to attract)

Mitsubishi to sell a sub-million Montero model in 2012?
