I've seen one on the road already, the non-VGT GLX. From the outside, there is no spare tire cover, and no body mouldings on all doors and the lower trunk lid. I wanted to see the changes in the interior, pero mabilis ang takbo ko.

Finally saw one earlier on my way home. :-)

Doesn't look cheap IMHO. At first glance, I thought it was your regular Montero but upon close inspection (no tire cover, no side mouldings etc..) GLX nga. And of course the badge.

It looked elegant, especially since it was white.

And mabilis rin siya ha. Hehe.

parang wala naman use ang VGT sa daily traffic eh. D ba nilagay LNG yan to sustain diesel engine power. though, I notice some loss of power when I drive our Starex grx as cmpared to my Santa Fe.

At least with the M/T, the transmission will compensate for the loss of power

Although I don't agree with *pop3corn on the majority of his posts & points, I somehow agree with his post above. Kung everyday car lang naman, the non-VGT would already suffice. Kapag na-stuck ka naman sa traffic, the VGT would be pretty useless. And getting stuck in traffic isn't really a rare sight here. Especially on rush hour. Grabe.

VGT would be only helpful siguro on open roads, and if you're a speed junkie. Plus on several instances that more power is needed. Pero kung law-abiding citizen ka naman and you practice "granny-driving" everytime you step on the expressway... the non-VGT Montero is more than enough. Hindi ka naman nakikipag-unahan para maabot mo yung 100kph speedlimit nor nakikipag-upakan with other faster vehicles than go beyond 200kph sa SLEX.

Having more power to boot is good, but if you're looking for a high-ground clearance vehicle that can make a stand and weave through floods effortlessly, the Montero GLX is just perfect.

^^^ Having more power without upgrading the brake system and handling is useless. It's very hard to stop a pickup or SUV at speeds of 120 km / hour.

Isa pa yan. A lot of people want to have a lot of go forgetting the fact that at one point or another they will need to stop.

I often see people brag about their long list of modifications but once you inspect it, not a single one is connected with brakes. Sad how they can spend thousands for "go", but hesitate to spend some for "stopping power".

Kadalasan ko lang nakikita with upgraded brakes, other than sedans are Navaras. Monteros & Fortuners? Close to none.

    Ingat lang guys.

That is why if you want to have powerful SUVs, you're better off getting a CUV which has better handling and brake system.

    we dont own an MS...
pero nakadrive na ako nito.. mukhang sufficient naman braking niya... 135/178 hp.. is good for a diesel.. but its not really alot compared to..other gas powered suvs...
brakes are important... imho... any car... 99 or 1000hp... we must drive responsibly
my 99hp gen2 kaya din tumakbo ng 140km/h.. ibig ko lang sabihin... cars with little hp.. kaya din tumakbo ng matulin.. it just takes time...
at 140kmh... a vehicle with little hp.. will also need good brakes..

The big problem with modern Montero brakes is the spongy feel. But in emergency braking, it's decent enough compared to other trucks (from PCOTY) and even crossovers.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...
