(sana lang eh me pambili ako) haha. :twak:

If it's not going to go below 1M, then their real target would be to crash the Tucson party.

as is, this thai model will hit the P1.1M mark in the phils

but with a few more strip downs, MMPC can bring the price down to less than P1M

too bad its gasoline. i doubt if mitsu phils will re-engine this at the cainta plant to the adventure diesel solely for the local market

a gas monty may not be that attractive what with the gasoline prices going up much higher than diesel prices

In my opinion, I think a gas powered MS will still sell if it were priced within that 1-1.1M mark. Some reasons, why it make sense:

    1. If it were 300K cheaper than the GLX or GLS-variant, even with higher gas prices compared to diesel, you would need a lot of full tanks before you recover the higher cost of the diesel MS

    2. Those in the market for a CUV might get swayed to get this 1M version of the MS since they will be tempted to buy a much larger SUV for the same price as the gas powered CUV

    3. Many are still wary of buying diesel powered cars because of the notion that diesel engined vehicles are more expensive to maintain and the poor quality of our diesel fuel.

Will putting an old 4D56 in it really justify raising the price by 200K (estimate only) over the gas model?

Toyota added 60K for the diesel option (over the gas engine) in Fortuner G variant. Surely Mitsu can match that.

I think Mitsu should just scrap that gas engine bec., based on that bangkok article, it seems really lethargic for the Montero's body (even if its stripped to the bone already).

    it's all about target market.

the people who don't get the 1M montero are definitely not it's target market.

with the 1M montero, mitsu philippines will catch the aspirational market. kudos to mitsu philippines' GM for being ballsy and really aggressive. it must take a lot of guts to do this program.

think about it. MMPC cannot compete in the passenger car market but it's really lording it over at the SUV market. they're milking their best selling product for whatever it's worth. success can be fleeting and you don't know when the public will get tired of the montero. strike while the iron is hot! when it was launched the ae92 was dominant, then the civic eg and ek, then the fortuner. there was a time the boxy nissan sentra was the car to have. MMPC is just capitalizing on it's strongest and fastest horse before it's "15 minutes of fame" runs out. if i were the MMPC CEO, i'd move hard and fast before toyota retools and launches an all-new fortuner, or hyundai's all-new sta fe comes out. then maybe, hopefully, by the time the euphoria and hype for the montero finally dies down, head office has come up with a better all-new model, and, even better, a better lancer or galant to compete in the passenger car market.

if you ask me, May is actually too far. (ganyan talaga, the bigger the organization, the slower it responds to "troop" movement, and the harder it is to maintain message fidelity among the ranks.) how long has the montero been in the market? marketing needs to keep on the offensive, keep the buzz for the montero going while i'd shape my sales force up, so that they'd know who to offer the 1M montero (aspirational market) to.

again, just my 2 cents. kudos again to MMPC and the Phil GM.

    dagdag:

and oh yeah, if the 1M montero eats into the ASX' market, so what? i'd rather lose my ASX customers to the 1M montero then lose them to toyota or hyundai/kia. the ASX couldn't grab enough market share from the CUV's (crv, tucson) anyway.

i remember when honda come out with the 10-seater crv (MY 2002) to crash the AUV party. AUV's were hot (adventure, FX) and honda stole the market with the 2002 CRV. never mind if the crv was a gas-guzzler (no diesel variant), an unreliable aircon and had a rough suspension (a necessity to pass the 10-seater certification). what's important is they made the sale and grabbed the market (heck, we bought one). to the honda GM: genius!

if you ask me, the biggest threat to the montero is it's own success. where do you go from here? come up with a better next gen montero? hindi naman mahirap maglabas ng napakagandang sasakyan kung ikaw ang manufacturer e. reverse engineer a lexus, x5 or rover, then splash it with enough leather to cause cow extinction. pero yan ba hanap ng market mo? for mitsu, ang hirap siguro i-narrow down the factors that led to the montero's success then put it on the next gen model. value for money is a tricky formula to discover which the current gen montero somehow nailed. is it all about pricing? remember that the Tata Nano (world's cheapest car) is a dismal failure.

sorry for the long post. ginanahan lang bigla in this slow weekend. comments and criticisms are most welcome.

sa tingin ko, kaya ng marketing yan. gawa lang sila ng pricing abstract sa maintenance cost + acquisition cost ng diesel montero vs gasoline montero and gaano katagal or ilang litro ng gasoline bago mabawi ang price difference na ito. if you drive about 10K kms a year, baka it makes more sense to go with a gasoline engine. plus, hindi pa maingay. and plus, "naka-montero ka na!" then have sales offer a few more discounts and freebies, and a good amortization plan, and you could convince a significant chunk of the market to go with the montero.

Mitsubishi to sell a sub-million Montero model in 2012?
