It's better to drive in 4H rather than 2H.
Summary from the video description:
1. Less wear and tear on running gears. Specifically differentials and their bushings. Since the load is distributed on all 4 wheels, the bushings lasts longer.
2. Better control on slippery surfaces. You have better chances of controlling slippery road conditions on all-wheel-drive than on 2H.
3. Super select 4wd control system lasts longer. Free wheel solenoids, diff actuator, center diff lock, and vacuum systems are all in rest position or neutral position. Making them last longer as these remain de-energized on 4H.ed

February 16th, 2025 03:17 PM #27I tried driving a full month in 4H, then another month in 2H... Fuel consumption was something like 6.8km/li in 4H, 7km/li in 2H. Pretty minor, though I admit this test is far from scientific (not really controlled conditions etc).
With the 3.2 diesel and 3.8 gas it seems difference is minimal. Not like the old 2.5 diesels which were underpowered. Most of the 2.8 diesels were 4x2 only.
After the test I just drive in 4H all the time. The whole point about AWD saving you from slippery conditions is that the aforementioned conditions can happen unexpectedly anytime (i.e. spilled coolant or oil on the road), and AWD can't save you if it's switched off. Also a matter of personal preference I guess. I've always had some kind of Evo or WRX since the early 2000s and like the driving feeling of AWD.
Fortuner and Prado don't even have the option to switch to 2H. It's 4wd all the time, option lang is high or low range.
Ford kasi... it needs a lot of TLC. ;) Kidding aside, I don't know if other turbo vehicles have...
