Thanks man. Sorry it is only now that I have read your reply. I bought all 4 brand new wheels for my Car (KYOTO brand na nga lang at 2,700/each naman kasi so laking katipiran). Yung brand ng Tie-rod at rack-end na kinabit nila is not OEM, but Triple 5 ata or triple 3 ang tatak...I forgot. I dunno kung ok yun. Pero they said it will do. When they did the wheel balancing, nagkaproblem ako dun sa front passenger (right) side, di siya mag balance kahit ilang tingga na ang nilagay nila, it has something to do with the mags daw? I wasn't that surprised since the original problem of my car originates from that side. Wheel Alignment is also included in the service.

Tsk2x! I dunno how I survived, but I did. Bumalik nga lang yung "ticking" sound dun sa relay ng AIRCON, pero just as long na lumalamig, oks na ako dun. Pero lately nga pipol parang may natunog sa may makina ko...sana nga hindi sa AIRCON, kasi modified lang yung evaporator ko since mahirap na pala makakuha ng type of evaporator for my car (galant vr). Overdue na nga ang oil change ko. All in all naka 28k na siguro ako sa Gal ko...pero still it's worth the drive. I'll update u all na lang if ever I encountered anymore problems.

I tried asking around and it seems 1,800 agad ang magagastos ko...w/out labor pa yun. Oh My! When it rains...it pours nga naman. And to top that all up, I'm also renovating my house (worth 1million na po nagagstos ko....huhuhu). Wish me luck na lang guys!

so what happened to ur GF's Galant? Very mind boggling yung 80k! Ako kasi last time sa CASA (in Laguna) 30k nagastos ko! Timing Belt, and rear Brake Pads ang inayos noon. Ayoko na nga sa CASA, unless TIMING Belt kasi sensitive daw pag belt ang papalitan, so better leave it to the experts and not just your ordinary DIY Mechanics.

Is this reasonable given that no tranny replacements were made, nothing major? I will try to know more about it 2m and will post soon as. Thanks 4 ur inputs. Hav a good one.

I have the same problem! I have a 99 Galant VR nga lang. If you have read some of my posts above, I just had my Tie-Rod and Rack-end replaced recently (including all 4 tires for my 12 yr old car). And I mentioned I hear a creaking sound also whenever I steer. After a week it became worse (the creaking sound). And when I checked the Power Steering reservoir, to my surprise it was empty! It hasn't done so before. So I the only rational thing to do is buy a fluid (I bought a Valvoline DEX/MERC ATF fluid). So the creaking sound disappeared...for awhile.

After a few weeks, it came back! And checked the reservoir and it's empty again! Now I know I have a problem. Prior to all of this I forgot to tell you. There are times that my belts are squealing! Specially in the morning during cold start. It seems to be eminating from my TIMING BELTS! But that's impossible since I just had my timing belts changed last 2008...sa CASA pa in San Pablo (see my previous posts here also) and it won't be due for the next 10 years pa! I checked and notcied this one hose which is kinda oily, and after much investigation I have theorized that it was the fault why my belts are screaming! Since the fluid leak is coming from that hose is leaking to my belts! Thus creating the unusual sound! I asked my father-in-law who has a knack for this things, told me it may be from the power-steering hose. And now with all that's been happening I'm thinking the old man is right. The puzzle is pieced together perfectly.

Fast-forward to yesterday (11-12-11, Saturday). I had it checked on my last Tire shop (SMS TYRES). Since I had my tie-rod and rack-end replaced there, might as well get a discount and it may also has something to do with their last repair there since the power steering may also be connected to their last repair (I'm thinking baka nga sila may kasalanan in the first place kung bakit nauubos agad ang fluid ko). So I went there and have it checked, I told them about the leaking hose, but it seems the mechanics are telling me otherwise. Steering Kit daw need ko (a whooping P5300! OEM naman daw!) plus labor (P2000 on overhaul...what overhaul?) and a P350 hose! I was surprised, but still had my cool. My wife (being a rich girl that she is) told me it's ok to have it fixed, since they accept credit card and it will only take a day, but I'm thinking, waitaminute I just don't wanna get ripped-off that easily. Good thing I have a downloaded PDF repair manual for my Galant (I suggest you search the Internet carefully for your models as well). So I took a printed portion of it (I printed the Power Steering portion only). I asked the mechanic to point in the diagram I have printed, where exactly is the problem. A little bit surprised, he kind pointed it to the STEERING GEAR and LINKAGE portion, which is very near on my replaced TIE-ROD and RACK-END. I told them I just had this fixed on their garage and they haven't noticed this was coming!? They told me it would be a completely different job. At this time I'm thinking for a second opinion.

I went to my other garage called HIGH GRIP. This time I only pointed out the hose and nothing else! I didn't even mention the tie-rod and rack-end replacement to these guys, one did however recognized me for the Aircon Estimate I had with him earlier, and told him my father-in-law knew someone who could fix it (awkward moment really but I guessed he didn't mind). And they told me that it is indeed only the hose that needs replacing. I asked them how much it would cost. The hose would be P1,700 (which I will have it custom made to a hose expert, which is near the first Garage I have visited, this shop is also highly recommended by my pa-in-law so I have no doubts in going there). I asked for the labor...after a few lingering moments they came up with P600 (really for a hose replacement only?). Anyway it's a much better offer compared to the 7k waiting for me at SMS Tyres. So I asked the mechanics if there is still time to do it today? They can do it daw. It was 3 pm, and I have to pick up my son for his tutorial at 4pm. So I decided tomorrow (Sunday), but the mechs told me they'll be watching the Pacquiao vs.Marquez III fight (for which I was kinda disappointed on Manny on this one). Im thinking there is little time for it to be fixed so I went ahead to the hose expert and have it checked if it is do-able. The mechs are telling me they need to remove the hose so that I could have it custom made, but I told them I may have no time to have it fixed that day so I might as well have an estimate of the cost and the duration of the hose to be made.

I went to the place (ALLFLEX HYDRAULICS -a hydraulic hose service center) and a guy called Albert Pineda was in-charge. He says he can make the hose and have it replaced also. The hose would indeed cost P1,700, but his labor is only P200! Imagine the savings I could get! My wife is kinda skeptical about the guy since the shop is so little, but I took my chances. He took out the hose with a help from a mechanic next door (SERVITEK, which I have no intention of having my car checked for personal reasons). Made a replica of the hose, he even pointed out the problem...I believe it is a cracked O-ring rubber (that may as well be the cause of the leak and the only problem). And after a little less than an hour, it's fixed! Good thing I still have a spare power steering fluid, so the guy poured it while I started the engine and turned the wheel. Good thing my wife is outside sitting when she told me there's a lot of fluid gushing from beneath! I checked and indeed there was, the guy fixed it by tightening the hose at the end (the leak didn't came from where it was before btw). I asked the wife again and this time there is none. I'm guessing problem solved, but I'll wait for a few weeks to really be sure if the reservoir won't go on empty again. And I still have time to fetch my son and have my car washed up.

So there you have it. My jurisdiction is check your reservoir if it is empty and have your hoses checked first since this will be a lot cheaper. But if worst comes to worst, based on the PDF Manual I've downloaded, Possible causes of these faults can include defects in the GEAR BOX, OIL PUMP and STEERING LINKAGE. Faults in the steering wheel can include excessive play of the steering wheel, difficult steering wheel operation, noise, vibration and oil leaks etc. My father-in-law told me that power steering is not much of a porblem since all it can do is you'll have difficulty in steering aka PAWIS STEERING. But I do recommend to have it fixed soon, since it is also an integral part of your vehicle.

Sorry for the loong story, I have made this forum kinda like my personal BLOG on my Car troubles, but I hope it does help a bit on your quest in repairing yours. I just don't want to see us guys get ripped-off all the time by some scheming and theiving mechanics. Because there will always be a lot of them out there. Let's all watch our backs on this. Good night and more power to this forum!

    hi guys

i have a mitsubishi galant v6 1997 (rayban), first owned and rarely used until the last 2 years

mileage is 49,200+ kilometers and still happily riding
though i guess i have to replace them soon, ksi may squeaking sounds na due to lack of grease, natatapon na ksi grease nya di sya yung may butas na ppwede mo lagyan ng grase.. for this maganda daw yung 555 na brand, tama ba?

since ang mileage ko is just 49,200 kilometers lang would you recommend having the timing belt replaced considering it's
    age?

may napapansin din ako sa kanya recently, parang nagbabago ang takbo nya pag bumubukas ang aircon, i mean iba yung hatak nya pag nag automatic yung off and on yung compressor, anything wrong with this?

i've been using shell's donax ATF since i acquired my 1997 galant matic on 2009, yearly/once a year ko pinapa-drain and palit ng new atf. this feb.-march, papalit naman ako, pero iba na ata ang gamit ng shell na atf or nag-change name/packaging lang.

i acquired my 1997 mitsu galant super saloon on sept. After 1 year pa lang, makalampag na ang car ko and when my mechanic checked the lower suspension arms nong jan., 2011, e damaged na daw and kailangan ng palitan. worse, my car broke down nong may 5, 2011. tumangal ang bolt ng lower suspension arm (straight).
may tumutonog na naman sa lower suspension arms ko. i think kailangan na namang palitan before it breaks. Mga bros., can the OEM lower suspension arms (curve and straight) of our beloved galant last for 3 years? On Sept. 2009, I changed my lower suspension arms (curve and straight) w/ aftermarket parts bought from ATCO, Pasay, and Last year (May 2011), I changed my lower suspension arms but I decided to buy aftermarket/replacement parts because the price of the OEM is thrice as higher as the aftermarket. so, naisip ko non, na ok lang kahit yearly ako magpalit ng lower suspension arms na aftermarket if the OEM would last for only 3 years or less, same cost lang naman kasi. My ride is 1997 mitsu galant SS.

however, i am already beginning to hear tok sounds whenever my wheels fall into rough roads, so I'm planning to buy a new set of lower suspension arms na naman this Feb.-May, 2012. Well worth kaya ang OEM sa price nya na almost 3X or 4X?

Wow, this is pretty classic for that model of the Galant. I had a 1995 VR before and was never able to get the suspension in tip top shape... Your chances of getting it back to original is using OEM. It's expensive yes, but i bet it can last more than 5 years with proper care. The Galant has a heavy front so replacement suspension parts give up easily. Yung Control Arm (curve) mabibili sa banawe tag 850 ata yung assembly. Yung Lateral Arm naman (direcho) nasa 1150 ata if i'm not mistaken. Kay Bestcolt ako bumibili ng parts ko nun for my 7G. Keep an eye for the stabilizer links and bushings, maingay din yan pag bumigay. :D

Broken Speedo can be fixed by buying the sensor on the transmission sir IMHO. not sure about the smoked tail light.

thanks for your reply bro. airolynx! do you have a tel. no. of Bescolt? Thanks again!

Hi! Galant Super Saloon SE 1997 owner here, sirs. Also a fan of Galant and I love my ride very much -- well kept in and out, pero minsan nakakainis when you encounter problems which are usually "bad timing".

When I started facing AT problems back in 2007, and still had the same issue after a couple of transmission replacement, I opted to have it converted from AT to MT. So far, no problem since then until around 6 months ago.

(First Problem) First, had some erratic idling when AC is turned on. Servo daw ang problem, but the OEM replacement was too costly. And some suggested not to settle for a surplus as I wouldn't be sure on how long it will last. A suggestion that came up was to have my servo bypass via conversion with a actuator/idle up (same with Toyota) in the meantime until I can afford to replace my servo. It was working well since then, but there will be times na bigla pa din babagsak yung idle na parang mamamatay yung engine pag nag shift ng gear. Pag nahahabol ng rev hindi siya mamamatay, pero still frustrating especially kung traveling for an important event. Anybody knows where I can get a reasonably priced OEM servo?

(Second Problem) Also, my starter motor started malfunctioning. Any ideas on that the problem is? Some said starter assembly, some said bendix, some said selenoid lang. Comments po? Also, recommendations where to buy an OEM starter assembly?

(Third Problem) Para mag stabilize yung idle pag nagstart ng engine from cold (long park) dapat pump muna accelerator pedal a lot of times. Unlike pag na-pump na a couple of times, mas stable yung idle pag nagstart.

Would appreciate your comments and inputs po. Salamat!
