Using the same EU combined cycle test, ito ang rating ng dalawang kotseng napupusuan ko:
Honda Jazz A/T: 14.92 Km/L (via Honda Jazz Review | CarAdvice)
Mitsubishi Mirage: 21 Km/L (via Mitsu brochure)


So using the same ruler, the Mirage is better.
So if you bring it home and do your usual driving route, you will consume less gas with a Mirage.

Mga Tol,

Sa 1000KM PM pala, labor lang free. Katatapos lang ni Kuya at gumastos sya ng P3,068.00 para sa 4 liters fully synthetic oil at oil filter. Every 5,000KM ang PMS nya. Compared sa Fiesta, totally walang gastos ang 1000KM PMS at every 10,000KM ang succeeding PMS.

Balak nya umakyat na ng Baguio dahil natapos anf 1000K PMS ng walang problema. Abot hangga tenga ngiti nya sa kanyang "Margie" (anagram of Mirage hehehe)

May alam ka ba na car brand na nagbandera ng FC based sa Edsa?

As consumers kelangan din talaga nating gamiting ang ating isip, di lang yung praise na lang ng praise, bad yan.

Sir Caloy, yung mga fuel test sa Mirage eh lahat naka set up for Euro 4 compliance at naka-target din for fuel economy which will give monetary and other grants both for Mits and the consumers like tax exemptions and lower car registration fees. Here in the Philippines Euro 2 lang po ang set-up ng Mirage. I am thinking that aside from pulling out economy-system-gadgets (like regenerative braking, auto stop n go, alternator management, etc) and fuel quality, there maybe changes also in ECU settings of PH Mirage which if modified can give us better fuel economy.

Napansin ko rin that compare with some other cars the the ratio of Mirage engine rotation per rotation of tire is higher though those other cars produce lesser power and torque. Kung lakihan kaya natin yung overall circumference ng tires di kaya mas matipid ito without serious negative effects
sa torque and acceleration. Sabagay, it needs a dyno para ma-analyze yung power band ng Mirage at different engine speeds and loads.

If you increase the tire circumference, KM reading in the odometer will fall and thereby falsely report a higher FC. Any change in tire circumference should have a corresponding adjustment in the car's computer to get an accurate KM reading.

Re:

1. I read a post by niky saying that the lower the rpm in high gears the more fuel efficient it is.

2. So Mirage GLX and a Mirage GLS, clamped together and driven around will not have the same odo readings since the GLS has a bigger wheel diameter, right?

3. I guess it should be the opposite. The fuel consumption will be higher since the MID will translate lower distance travelled with same amount of fuel. I believe you are saying Fuel Efficiency (not consumption) will be calculated lower.

Yep, the actual will be different from the computed. The computer will interpret a lower distance than the actual traveled since based sya sa rotation ng tire at hindi sa GPS location for example.

As an analogy, let's say ang hakbang ko is one foot and that is what the computer kows. What I do is lakihan ko yung hakbang ko to 2 feet per hakbang. Now if I do 10 steps, my actual distance will 20 feet but the computer will "think" 10 feet lang.

There are a lot of factors affecting fuel consumption. Driving speed, traffic condition, temperature, road inclination, tire condition, laden weight, driver, etc. So what engineers did is to make a standard procedure on how to measure fuel consumption. The EU Combined Cycle test is one of them. This standard is for testing the fuel consumption of all cars sold in Europe using the same metrology process - meaning, all conditions are the same and only the car is different.

This standard was developed to avoid scenarios like those in comedy movies where the swimming pool is "lampas tao" then someone jumps in only to find out the pool is shallow and the person saying "lampas tao" is a midget.

So let's look at the fuel consumption of 2 cars I personally like using the same exact procedure - the EU Combined Cycle test:

Honda Jazz A/T: 14.9 Km / L (via)
Mitsubishi Mirage CVT: 21 Km/L

In the real world where you do not have an EU Combined Cycle test bed, you will get lower FC numbers. But the Mirage will still have better FC compared to the Jazz.

They were not lying about getting 21km/l under EU cycle but it was misleading. Ang point lang is kung ang testing nila for the 21km/l was performed in a near perfect environment then hinde tama naman na yun ang selling point nila. Kaya ang daming nagrereklamo sa FC kasi sila mismo ang nagtaas ng expectation.

P.S. Sa buhok ni Kris, yes it is false advertising. Di naman lumabot yung buhok nya sa shampoo pero sa kung ano-anong hair treatment ang ginawa nila yet they claim dahil sa shampoo yun.

I don't think 21km/li is *false advertising*. You can do that on long drives and using some hypermiling techniques. ;)
I suggest that the guys here take your FC readings (not the MID reading) multiple times so we can get the baseline average.
