may paraan ba tau na malaman kung may something defect ang differential natin?o kelangan talaga ipa-tsek sa casa?katakot naman yang nangyari sau sir larry..naalala ko nangyari samin noon papunta cavite riding sa for hire na fiera type na van, nalaglag propeller,inararo yung kalsada,buti wala pa kami sa expressway or sa aguinaldo hi-way..pano na lang kung sa expressway nangyari yun..

sir larry, since kadarating mo lang at 2 weeks ago na PMS ang sasakyan mo bago mangyari ang insidente, i assumed na di mo nakita na walang tumulong oil yung differential nung 5k PMS. at ano naman ang ginawa nung japanese engineer na pumunta sa mitsubishi? saan banda sir nadisconnet yung differential? nahugot sa sugpungan ng sleeve o sa universal joint? kung disconnected yan ay nalaglag na sana at kumayod na sa daan?

Hi Sir, When I'm using the car nag 360 degrees inspection muna ako as helicopter mechanic routine ko na un kasi un ang work ko inaapply ko sa car, ang lakad namin is pagudpud, ilocos norte. walang traces ng leak sa differential or sa floor ng garahe I always do a visual inspection before hitting the road. We bought the car July last year 2012 . Ung wala tumulong oil na sinabi ko after na un ng nangyari when mitsubishi san fernnando do a post inspection. Ginamit ko ung term na disconnected kasi ung ang term na ginamit na mitsubishi. Give me your email and ill send a picture. Galing ng planta ung japanese engineer nag imbestiga cla kasi d sila makapanila sa nangyari. d cya nalaglag luckily kasi nakabig ko kaagad sa shoulder ang sasakyan nun may sumabog at nagvibrate na ang car.

Hi Sir, nakakatakot talaga kaya ayaw ko nang magdrive ng montero na trauma ako d ko na kinuha ung car sa Carworld San Fernando, Pampanga. BInibigyan ako that time ng loaner car montero din d ko tinanggap. With regards kung paano malalaman ung defects d ko masasagot.

i see, during post inspection na pala walang tumulo na oil and inspector din pala yung japanese engineer. well, thanks for sharing the incident, it makes everybody aware na pwede pala mangyari ang ganyan, not only to montero users siguro pero kahit sa ibang sasakyan. be thankful na walang nasaktan sa family mo at ibang motorist. balitaan mo kami sa susunod na events...

Sir Larry123, from your posts ang pagkaintindi ko the propeller shaft was disconnected from the differential at ito yung kumaladkad sa ground. Tama po ba? Where was it disconnected? Sa point where they are attached or part of the differential was pulled out from the housing? Some pics would help..

Siguro lemon unit at minalas lang sir. Kulang QA ng Mitsu sa planta sa Thailand due to the mass production but this should not be. Pero I don't know who does the Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI) here locally if it is the Mitsubishi Plant or the casa. According to the service manual, checking the differential fluid as well as other fluids are part of the PDI so there is more than one person liable if the cause of the breakdown points to the lack or absence of differential fluid. Hope you update us sir.

Ung wife ko ang nagdala ng car sa service center d nya iniwan sabi ko sa kanya tingnan kung anong ginagawa sa car. actually that time nasa abroad pa ako. nung tinanong ko ung mga mekaniko sa service center kung saan namin dinala ung monty after the incident d daw nila ginagalaw ang differential that what they say sa 20k km pa. Tanong ko sa kanila kasama ba sa checklist ng 5k PMS ang differential d nila masagot ng diretso. As helecopter mechanic medyo nakakaintindi ako sa pagdating sa PMS kasi mas delikado kung may mangyayari sa aircraft kaya may dulplicate inspection kami sa vital parts kaya d ko talaga pinapalampas un. Sabi pa nga nila sa wife ko 10k km na palitan ang engine oil pero sabi ko "NO" ipachange oil mo kahit synthenic yan nilagay sa 1k PMS.

Was the absence of differential fluid the cause or the effect of the propeller shaft disconnecting? Would the brand new vehicle been driven to 5k km without manifesting problems had the differential been faulty when first used? Or this may be a consequence of some negligence during the 5k pms?

We should remain vigilant and not let this pass as it may have dire consequences. Thanks larry for posting and thank God because it could have been worse. Keep us all updated.

I think they still investigating the incident. D kasi masyado ginagamit sa malalayo ung car we bought last July 2012 but still 5950km ung mileage. Ung wife ko lang gumagamit sa malalapit lang but she told me na humahataw din sya minsan, OFW kasi ako. Pero before may Naririnig na rin akong Humming sound then minsan may delay na ung hatak tingin ko namn kasi automatic cya. Just click the link for similar problem.

Sir during your pre-trip inspection, did you check the ATF level in the engine bay?
And after the accident is there a sign in the differential drain plug that it was previously opened or any dent at the bottom part of the differential housing?

SIr Glenn, Did ou mean The Automatic Transmission Fluid Level, I checked all the fluid levels at vital parts as part pre-trip visual inspection and 360 degrees visual inspection sa car. ung mechanic na ang nag open ng drain plug, as far as I remember walang problema ang differential housing any dents or unusual marks.

30k kms ang casa interval for changing Differential fluid. So during your 5k PMS sir I am 100% sure that they did not check the fluid level. Kasi visual inspection lang ang gagawin nila diyan (kung ginawa man nila). That is why I am emphasizing that kung talagang the cause is the lack of differential fluid, the one who should have inspected it during the Pre-Delivery Inspection should be the one held liable..

I don't know what part failed based on the actual picture shown.. I am guessing it may be the diff drive bearings due to the lack of lubrication?

SIr Glenn, Did ou mean The Automatic Transmission Fluid Level, I checked all the fluid levels at vital parts as part pre-trip visual inspection and 360 degrees visual inspection sa car. ung mechanic na ang nag open ng drain plug, as far as I remember walang problema ang differential housing any dents or unusual marks.

Thanks for the info sir Larry, Nangyari na kasi yan sa isang pick-up namin dito sa site, naubusan ng differential fluid, sumabog din. Sumabit kasi yung rear differential sa bato while crossing a river, nasira yung pinion seal, nag leak. Parehas yung itsura ng damage sa picture na post ni sir Zix, although yung sa case namin nagka butas yung differential housing nung sumabog.

Ang extreme cause na naisip ko dyan ay ginalaw ng mekaniko ng casa sa 5k PMS ninyo yung drain plug, Kung kulang na kasi yang langis from the factory hindi na aabutin ng 5k km yang differential ninyo at maririning ninyo yung whinning sound. Kung may defective oil seal naman, dapat may mapansin kang leak o oil sa garahe mo.

Sir Zix is it possible for half filled or not oiled differential to last 5k kms before it will explode?
