My paternal Lola loves the beach and as a child I hated it when we would have overnight stays. She said she likes it because she thinks the salt water has healing properties

I like nature, just not the beach. I'm scared of natural bodies of water. I want to see Batanes. I want to see Sagada. The mountains seem enjoyable. But honestly I'm not a travel person. It's nice but I don't look for it unlike most people.

Saltwater has been proven to relax your soul and they wash the stress away. Hehe

    At least for me.

Agree with EQ. Being born and raised in Cebu, the beach is only a few kms from the house. There is something soothing and relaxing about the beach especially when you are witnessing the sunrise. Noontime is too hot but that is when the beer and cocktails come in handy. When alcohol takes effect, you close your eyes drifting to sleep with the sound of the waves hitting the shore and you wake up in time to watch the sun setting low and the smell of prawns and liempo roasting next to you. Heavenly!

Itong part ng previous post mo kasi cathy. Kaya nila siguro nasabi yun.

Maski nung bata ako, ang na enjoy ko lang sa beach eh dahil kasama mga pinsan ko and/or family friends. Though agree ako kay bro eq and dream na ok yun salt water sa katawan (i have minor a skin condition), irita talaga ako pagdating sa ahunan.

We feel the same. Beach isn't my favorite treat. Though the view is relaxing, immersing myself to it does not fascinate me. I'd rather swim at a pool.

Yes. I like the pool better. I don't know why but I'm scared of large bodies of water. You don't know what's underneath kasi.

You don't have to swim naman. Most beach resorts have pools, for those who do not want to swim in saltwater.

The attraction of the beach is much more than being able swim in it. There's the atmosphere, the sense of solitude, being away from the hustle and bustle, and being able to focus on ang bond with your companions. It offers different things to different people, I think, which is what makes it a popular getaway place.

What is not to like in a beach? Cool refreshing breeze. Contemplating life at the end of the day. Warm fine sand under your feet. Sights....

Amen to this!!! I love the beach too! It's an escape from the stress of city life that satisfies your senses... the sight of the horizon (or bodies.hehe), the sound of the waves/birds, the feel of the fine sand and clean water, and the smell of fresh nature air in 1 place.

I think the better argument here is that other people might prefer different things... and just like our taste/decision for cars, let's just see the positive and respect one another rather than bashing what we don't personally like or do. ;-)

Easy to avoid. Salt water? Give me a break....its rejuvenating and healthy. Corals? Corals mean marine life and diversity. That means theres a beautiful seascape below the waters. And even if youre not into that sort of thing then just wear slippers or booties. There are also powdery and sandy beaches out there where the feet feel right at home.

The beach is an escape, a place to recharge, a place to bond with your family and friends. There are no billboards, no dangling electric wires, no traffic to deal with, no malls, etc on the beach. Its you, your family and friends lapping up what mother nature serves up for you. Stories are livelier. Laughter is longer. 2 And yeah the scenery and vistas are something only mother nature can paint.

Its a feast for the senses....the cool water, if you're lucky then the water is crystal clear, the nice breeze, shade from palm or coconut trees, the feel of sand under your feet, the light glistening on the water and magical sunsets. All without the chaos that city life normally brings. Imagine being sorrounded by all this while you are with you loved ones and friends. Easy dress code, easy lifestyle, no clock or time to chase, fun and memories all around. Nothing could be better really. Cant imagine how S&R or Lucky mall binondo can even hold a candle to this.

I actually feel bad and sorry for you that you find no joy in the beach. It is like you are writing off one of nature's great and simple pleasures because of your anxieties and insecutity. Imagine that? Its summer time in a country blessed by gorgeous beaches...many within driving distance. There are family and friends and experiences who are heeding the siren call of the ocean. And you have written them all of within your head. You really are boxing your life in.... and the box is getting smaller.

I love taking a nap by the beach with the sea breeze and the sound of the waves pounding on the rocks.

Thank you. You are very kind I'm reading all the reasons why people here love the beach and it just does not appeal to me (sights, sound of the waves, solitude, sunrise/sunset). Some people just enjoy or like different things I guess.

Dogs love beaches, and Labs are good swimmers.

That's the only reason why I wanted to go to the beach. I saw a video of a lab running to the beach and he looked so happy. I want my lab to experience that but I'm afraid my fat lab will swim too far and my other consideration is the stress of the travel. She can only ride the car around the city, and she gets restless na.

    This video. So much happiness!

Maganda sa beach lalo na pag wala gaano tao tapos makakatulog ka sa buhanginan.

Pero ang tatalo sa beach eh waterfalls with batis. Dito talaga ako nag-eenjoy. Pag ahon you dont need to banlaw kasi fresh water with minerals. Wala alat na amoy.

And maganda sa waterfalls eh need pa dayuhin by foot or angkas sa habal-habal. So malaki chance na solo mo or konti lang tao.

i am thinking about "low maintenance."
just how much or how little money does one regularly spend monthly, to be considered "low maintenance" or "high maintenance" ?
does such a definitional amount exist?

For me, it's not only about the money. What defines "high maintenance" for me is one that requires a greater-than-acceptable amount of time, effort, and money. I think everyone's threshold for each factor is different. Depende na lang talaga if mapasensya/mapagbigay ka hehehe.

i mean, when does low maintenance end, and scrooge begin?
when does generous end, and high maintenance begin?

when one has lotsa time, one's thoughts meander...

    Mahirap ata i-quantify.

I think scrooge begins when one deprives something of reasonable (and reachable) value to someone else who will be happy with it.

    It's relative, IMO.
