We estimate our VP in Manila to be earning around P300k/mo. She is early 40s and her husband has a good job also. I don't know how much her husband earns but probably close? They don't spend much on education (kids study in Philippine Science High School). They travel at least once a year in Asia, Europe and US. They have 2 cars. 2 helpers. House in a middle class village.
Pero hindi pa din siya galante![]()
I reached the 6-digit mark on my 10th year with my previous employer and after being a manager for 5 years. Wife was still working at that time and 2 kids in elementary school. House on mortgage along with 2 cars. Savings was just a trickle but we can afford weekend shopping and dine out. My point is P100k would not afford a family of 4 enough savings for retirement.
I finally decided to leave the company after 17 years, which was the best decision I have made.

Another case:
A friend worked for P&G for several years rolling out new systems and hopped through various BPOs and SSCs migrating processes from different countries into Manila ended up with a salary of P400K/month and eventually retired upon reaching mid-40s and now comfortably running his own business and travels around the world with his family.
Lessons learned: never stay too long in one company and be ready to grab the next opportunity.
