How much is considered a good salary?

Depends on what stage in your life you are. A 20-year old earning 50k/month is pretty good. A 40-year old with the same salary, not so much especially if he has many mouths to feed.

They don't spend much on education (kids study in Philippine Science High School). They travel at least once a year in Asia, Europe and US. They have 2 cars. 2 helpers. House in a middle class village.

I reached the 6-digit mark on my 10th year with my previous employer and after being a manager for 5 years. Wife was still working at that time and 2 kids in elementary school. House on mortgage along with 2 cars. Savings was just a trickle but we can afford weekend shopping and dine out. My point is P100k would not afford a family of 4 enough savings for retirement.

I finally decided to leave the company after 17 years, which was the best decision I have made.

Another case:

A friend worked for P&G for several years rolling out new systems and hopped through various BPOs and SSCs migrating processes from different countries into Manila ended up with a salary of P400K/month and eventually retired upon reaching mid-40s and now comfortably running his own business and travels around the world with his family.

Lessons learned: never stay too long in one company and be ready to grab the next opportunity.
