I'm looking forward to getting myself into a CIO position. It's not as easy as it seems. You have to be exposed in all aspects of IT operations so that you know what you're getting into. If you ask me, an IT infrastructure management practitioner has better chances of landing a CIO position than an IT application development management practitioner.

That's perfectly fine, but also different from saying that a top level executive position is bad because it "makes the market smaller".

Kung ayaw, ok lang. People have different priorities in life. I've met countless people who could've reached higher peaks in their corporate careers but chose to stay where they are for one reason or another.

Kung gusto pero hindi kaya, sabihin na hindi kaya kaysa yung maraming paligoy ligoy pa.

This is the reason why I'm exposing myself to infra stuff with my current post so that the experience comes handy once an opportunity presents itself for a CIO post.

You can't blame people if they shy away from challenging or stressful situations. More people want a routine of sorts and do not have to worry on what they need to achieve on a daily basis.

Yup, but those people are not able to step out of their comfort zone to take on bigger roles or challenges. It's self-limiting and a big waste of opportunity.

I wouldn't call it a waste. Higher level corporate positions are very cutthroat, demanding, and time-consuming. There is an opportunity cost when you take on a big role.

I know a lot of folks who declined higher-level positions so they have more time with their kids, or their side businesses, or their passions.

Bro, in my 30 years of working experience in various multinational companies, everyone wants a promotion, or at least an increase in pay. Top executive positions will not be offered to anybody if management does not believe that person has the potential.

There was one exception though. An employee refused a managerial role because it would put her in a position that her personal business will create a conflict of interest. Apparently, that person is receiving more than her salary but she needs her employment to connect to her 'clients'.
