November 16th, 2007 06:42 PM #1It seems that more and more stuff are pirated nowadays. Be it software, video games, fashion items, car parts, etc.
It is hard for anyone to honestly say that they did not in one way or another actually purchase or even make use of pirated stuff.
Well the country is not exactly a rich country. Some would contend that it is okay to buy orig software for example if they actually priced it according to region.
It is a broad subject and we are told it is a crime. Yet it is everywhere. And it continues to thrive due to its many patrons.
Do you think it is bad? Or is it actually good?
Do you think there are quality issues? Are we entitled to these products even if we do not pay the owner of the rights.
What is your position on this problematic issue?

pirates are pirates, you only fool yourself in making others believe that you are capable of purchasing branded goods whereas in reality they are knock offs.
if you dont have the money to buy expensive goods, stick to your budget and buy low cost original products, wait for sales, if you think they are too expensive.
am i guilty? yes i do, in buying dvd, however, i try to limit it, i am gulity of downloading from limewire as well...but lately i make friends through some forums and let them share their audio CD, which i think are more legal=)
OT: dont be caught in entering United States with your pirated stuff, photocopied books, fake bags, shoes and other thing as you will be subjected to deportation.

I used to think it was ok until I created something of my own which I wanted to sell. Now if somebody just copied it and himself made money, I would've wanted a piece of it because it is my creation. If I continue to get paid, I will continue to improve the product, or fund research to come out with new products as well.
It's that or I give it away for free. At which point it becomes a hobby and I will have to do something else to make money.

Buying Pirated stuff is bad. Selling them them is like your a thief. There is a Karma to that. Supporting pirated stuff will loose a lot of jobs from orig companies.
O.T. Is sharing one bottomless ice tea considered stealing?

come to think of it "PIRATED" ay masama talaga.
so sa totoo lang ang tanong eh bakit we are buying it?
makakatid ba o makakalamang?
for sure karamihan ay sasagot ng dahil sa makakatid... kasi tingnan mo nga lang ang deprensya sa presyo ng di pirated sa pirated.
but the truth of the matter is, pareho din yun ang kalabasan nun, without us realizing na panglalamang din lahat yun.
well, kung tututusin eh trabaho ng gobyerno yung pagsugpo ng nga gawaing yun.
ang matinding tanong can we really avoid buying pirated stuff?

November 21st, 2007 04:39 PM #7Sorry, but I disagree with this.
We all share the responsibility of fighting piracy. Simply said, kung walang bibili walang benta. Kung walang benta, lugi negosyo. Kung lugi negosyo, dead na.
Sabi nga ni Jacky Chan, in a different global issue..'If the buying stops, the killing can too.'

i agree. not to mention the fact that many artists would make one or two good songs, fill the rest of the CD with garbage, and sell it for $15. i'm personally thankful that the music industry's business model has changed as a result (especially to the download-and-pay-per-song model - very convenient!)
:rofl01:
that's a little much - i think that more restaurants need to think about not nickel-and-diming their customers...but i know it happens

I'm as guilty as everyone else especially when I was younger. I used to bootleg software for the Commodore Amiga and saw firsthand what happened when developers decided to abandon a platform (because of rampant piracy). I learned a bitter lesson there. So now, I buy all my software and/or stick to open-source, public domain ones.
DVD's...... I generally avoid pirated movies/shows. However when I rent a movie from Blockbuster, I do make an xVid copy before returning the DVD.
Music...... No need for pirating music. Whatever music gets streamed on the internet is good enough for me. I'm no audiophile, not even close. Plus, I record/edit my own mp3 music from the music section of our DirectTV.
Most other stuff..... Nah. I'm not into status symbols. So, little-known brand names are fine for me: $20 sneakers, $5 watches, Walmart shirts/pants, Hyundai car, etc........ I travel a lot too like now (I'm here in Atlanta after visiting Europe). Having less brand-name stuff means less chances of them being stolen----> except laptops. It doesn't matter what brand name a laptop is. People will steal them no matter what brand.
