"better be a tnl, albeit in twisted form, than to admit we forgot to bring an umbrella!"
all sensible filipinos know enough to bring an umbrella everyday. kung hindi pang-araw (para-sol... parasol!), pang-ulan (para-agua... paragua (!).
i go out of my way to buy folding umbrella, which i have with me whenever i have to do some significant walking.
according to an elder entity,
our old june-pasukan academic calendar was designed to cooperate with our local farming industry's harvesting and planting schedules, and not to cater to the weather's quirks. the schoolchildren were farm workers in between school season... there was also this under-breath comment that farmers had more money after harvest time...
then someone thought of altering it, to cater to "international standards".
now, we re-adjust to cater to the sun's extremes.
had our 'merican conquerors gotten their way, we would be following their american academic schedule instead. pasukan sa agosto, etc.
If I am not mistaken, the Taft Commission (Americans) set up the Philippine school system in 1901. The Americans had enough sense to let the kids go on vacation during the summer months when it was very hot. That is why before the brilliant plan to change our school calendar, our summer vacation was really during summer.
yes and no. Yes the school calendar was designed to coincide with the rice planting and harvest season. Its been like that since the Spanish administration. And while some schools have moved to a different calendar, most still adhered to June-March calendar. It was only during the COVID pandemic na nasira ang calendar at nagsimula ng Sept/Oct 2020.
I got over half a dozen large umbrellas from businesses over the years. I keep at least one in the back of my car and then a reverse-folding auto-open/close umbrella near the driver's seat.

Kids in my daughter's school were instructed to study remotely today (asynchronous). Ironically, I didn't see the sun during my morning commute. The sky was cloudy to overcast... with the outside humidity in the 60-75%. Hottest will be around 2pm with a chance of rain at around 4pm.
I was considering having the car washed if the the forecast was going to be sunny for the rest of the week, but I guess I'll have to put that on hold.
The weather is really all over the place.
