Lipa archbishop: 'Ungodly' laws cause disasters

MANILA -- Lipa Archbishop Ramon Arguelles believes that calamities in the country should be a reminder for Filipinos not to forget God.

"Yung nangyayari sa atin, lindol, baha, super typhoon, ay paalala sa atin," he said.

He also believes that the disasters send a message to people.

"Pinapaalaala sa atin na huwag tayong makalimot sa buhay. Even our life, nasa kamay ng Diyos so we better make it meaningful," Arguelles said.

He also claimed that disasters could be the result of "ungodly" laws such as the Reproductive Health (RH) Law.

"Let us not forget him. Inaalis natin siya eh, katulad niyan ginagawang batas ang hindi ayon sa loob ng Diyos. So when we oppose God, we are in danger."

However, the archbishop said Filipinos should be thankful for the generosity and unity that people show in the aftermath of the calamities.

"Katulad ng mga nasalanta, they are closer to God now more than ever and tayo rin at dapat ganyan at sana during better times."

Arguelles said recent calamities should serve as a reminder for people to avoid going against God's rule. -- report from Cesca Joven, TV Patrol Southern Tagalog

Better late than never...di pa ata dumating yung hospital ship ng kano...

China Is Finally Sending Its "Peace Ark" to the Philippines

HONG KONG (Reuters) - China is sending a state-of-the-art hospital ship to the Philippines following foreign and domestic criticism that it was slow and less than generous in its response to one of the world's biggest typhoons, which killed at least 4,000 people.

The Foreign Ministry in Beijing confirmed on Tuesday the deployment of the 14,000-tonne "Peace Ark" as state television reported the arrival of the first batch of Chinese relief supplies in the Philippines.

Exactly where the Ark will operate and when it will arrive have not yet been confirmed, but Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei said the Ark would set sail as soon as possible.

"China has always been concerned about the Philippines typhoon disaster," he said. "In the spirit of helping the dying and healing the injured, we plan to send rescue workers to the disaster area."

Tension between China and the Philippines had risen in recent months over disputed claims in the South China Sea, with Manila taking Beijing to a United Nations court to challenge its historic claim to much of the strategic waterway.

China's usually hawkish Global Times, a tabloid owned by the government mouthpiece, the People's Daily, last week urged the deployment of the Ark amid criticism of Beijing's response by foreign commentators.

China, the world's second-largest economy, initially announced it was giving $200,000 and then bumped that up by $1.6 million. On Sunday, it said it was ready to send rescue and medical teams.

In contrast, the United States has mobilized about 50 ships and aircraft in the disaster zone with helicopters delivering supplies from an aircraft carrier. It has announced more than $37 million in humanitarian aid.

Armed forces and aid agencies are struggling to get help to devastated areas following the widespread destruction in the Philippines, which left more than four million people homeless.

The Ark will join an international flotilla of naval ships now delivering food, water and medicine to victims of Typhoon Haiyan, which tore across the central Philippine on November 8, smashing just about everything in its path.

The Ark, outfitted with 300 hospital beds and eight operating theatres and a medical staff numbering 100, recently returned to Shanghai after an unprecedented four-month deployment to Southeast Asia and the Indian Ocean where it made several goodwill stops, treating thousands of patients.

A Chinese cargo plane carrying tents and blankets landed in the central Philippine city of Cebu on Tuesday, broadcaster CCTV said.

"The Philippine Department of Social Welfare and Development head has said the Chinese relief goods are very useful," Chinese embassy official Wu Zhenping told the station.

"They will distribute some goods to evacuated victims in Cebu and the rest to victims in the worst-hit area, Tacloban."

ATTENTION ALL #OPLANHATID volunteers. Please bear with me, but this is my final announcement. Share to your heart's content.

It took me about an hour to write this very short post but that was mostly because I had to keep going back to tone down the language. So as unemotionally as I can say it, here it is:

As of 12pm tomorrow, we are being kicked out of Villamor. Yes, all of us. We’re being shut down. Not just Oplan Hatid, but the entire relief effort, I’m told. I’m too upset to get into details, but in a nutshell, as of 12pm tomorrow, ALL evacuees will be transferred by government bus to Aguinaldo. What they plan for them there, I do not know. Nobody does. All I know is that they don’t need our help. The government, that is, not the survivors.

The only quote I got was: “The public should not be asking the local government to help in this time, but the other way around.”

Well, sirs, we tried. We really, really, did. There’s so much I would like to say right now, but I will hold back.

So to my good friends that donated tents, sound systems, food, drinks, tables, chairs and the like, Villamor require you to be out by noon. I wish I could have called you each individually, but there;s just too many of you that have been so selfless here that I just wanted to make sure you get all your stuff back.

To the angels who committed food and support, please cancel your orders. You’re welcome to send it to Aguinaldo but I have no idea who to talk to there. Bahala na si batman.

To those delivering the tarps and other supplies, let’s talk privately. People still need that. Let’s not let politics get in the way.

I will try and contact each of you privately to coordinate pull out, but for now, as they love to say in higher management, please be advised accordingly.

    God bless the Philippines

"Karma is a bitch!!"

Weathermen to Ted Failon: 'Our lady colleague died in the service of country' | Headlines, News, The Philippine Star | philstar.com

A group of weather forecasters decried ABS-CBN newscaster Ted Failon's remark on their supposed lack of knowledge about storm surge.
In a statement posted Tuesday, Philippine Weathermen Employees Association (PWEA) president Ramon Agustin said that Failon's accusations are demeaning to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Service Administration's (PAGASA) staff.
    buti nag apologize si Failon:

let's admit it. Coming from being a laughing stock several years ago, PAGASA have made a turn around. Milya-milya layo ng accuracy ng forecast nila nowadays and also the way they relay the info.

You can say that again. Villamor is now a ghost town after the volunteers were kicked out. DSWD is now taking over here.

And i told my staff weak si yolanda. Maaga kami pinauwi that time. Nagimbal na lang ako when i watched tv. Eyeopening itong yolanda for me. Noong ondoy kampante ako di binaha ang village namin. Pero itong yolanda. In the future, once pagasa forecast na malakas ang bagyong paparating. Maghahanada na ako. Tama kayo guys, accurate na sila this days.
