Binay camp explains relief bags with OVP’s seal
Manila BulletinManila Bulletin – Sat, Nov 16, 2013

Manila, Philippines - The camp of Vice President Jejomar C. Binay yesterday said relief goods being distributed by the second highest elected official for victims of super typhoon “Yolanda” have “no markings.”
However, relief goods donated by a Binay supporter in Iloilo had stickers bearing the seal of the Office of the Vice President, a spokesman said.

Binay’s spokesman Joey Salgado issued the clarification after some pictures of the supposed relief goods from Binay’s office circulated on social media.

Based from the pictures circulating on Twitter and Facebook, a sticker that bore the seal of the Office of the Vice President (OVP) was attached to the white plastic bag containing the relief goods. Salgado on Twitter (*salgado_joey) said that OVP relief goods were in plain white plastic bags.

“Per report of the OVP relief team, relief goods were in plain white plastic bags. Matter is being investigated,” he said amid negative feedback from some netizens on the labeled relief packs.

“To clarify, OVP relief goods are in plain white plastic bags, no markings. Thanks,” he said in another tweet.

A video from Binay’s office taken last Wednesday showed his staff repacking hundreds of relief goods in plain white plastic sans the supposed sticker that bore the OVP seal and Binay’s name.

Netizens blasted Binay for using the situation to allegedly advance his political interests.

After verification, Salgado claimed the relief bags with stickers were found to have been donated by a supporter of Binay in Iloilo.

“Relief bags with stickers were donated by Engr. Nelson Golez of Iloilo. Plain white bags are from OVP,” Salgado tweeted later on Friday.

Some bags donated by Golez were sent to Capiz along with OVP relief bags, he said.

“*VPJojoBinay thanks Mr. Golez for his donation,” Salgado also tweeted.

Binay’s office last Thursday said around 40,000 relief goods are being distributed in some towns in Capiz, Iloilo and Cebu that have been heavily damaged by “Yolanda.”

Although hindi ako beneficiary ng mga tulong ng ibang nasa, my heart is overwhelmed by the help pouring in for the yolanda victims. sa tagal ko nang nabubuhay sa pinas, ngayon lang ako nakabalita ng ganitong kalaking tulong.

can I be off-topic for a while, does this show of force from other nations, shows other nation like china, who will come to our aid when china decides to attack us?

A little insensitive. Do you think it is wise to send displaced people to already densely populated Manila... who will surely end up in the already overcrowded IS colonies.

Another scary thing is that they be taken advantage by syndicates and vote searching politicians (well, almost not much difference between the former and the latter).

And that, people, is how VP Binay works his black art of political propagation... while Mar Roxas is away and being roasted by media, Noggie goes to the DILG frontman's bailiwick to play (and court votes for 2016).

unlikely. it's one thing to send humanitarian aid during a natural disaster, it's another to engage another country in an armed conflict. but,

we can count on the US since we still have an active mutual defense treaty (which it was reaffirmed in November 2011). Japan may also have a role in it if the PH comes into armed conflict with China. as for the other countries, they will most probably be strongly protesting diplomatically any aggressive acts by China.

Anyone volunteered to help transporting refugees coming from villamor airbase? Saw james deakins appeal on FB for volunteers with vehicles na willing to transport refugees.
I assume and im hopeful na those who opted to fly here sa manila is yung may mga relatives / kaibigan na matutuluyan. Mas mamomroblema ata na sila kung aalis sila ng province tapos wala tutuluyan dito sa manila.

Our office announced there's a suggestion na all regular employees will be deducted a 1 day leave, this leave will be monetized and will be donated too. For me much better lalo na dun sa mga walang extra naitabi to give, Instead na mag out of pocket ka pa. Nakatulong ka na hindi mo pa ramdam.

It will take a lot of will power by the people and the government (ourselves included). We have to work fast to rebuild the place to keep people from going away and letting the place rot.

Just to give comparison, Pampanga was devastated when Pinatubo hit and subsequently, the US bases packed up for good ... a lot of people thought that it was the end of the area. But with time and money, it was rebuilt (even before SCTEX was done and the NLEX rehab was finished). One interesting thing i learned from the patriarch of one of the local business families was he told me that when the place was devastated, they immediately put out their money and obtained loans from the bank to rebuild the commercial areas they owned/operated to make sure that commerce does not go away. I guess the same concept should be applied: as relief efforts are underway, reconstruction and the restarting of business and commerce should be put into hyperdrive just as well.

can't say i blame them though. if i was in their shoes i'd be too traumatized to go back there within the next 5 years.
