Aside from victims of typhoon in Tacloban, US also donated foods and medical supplies in olongapo. Hopefully matuloy na ulit yun US based sa subic para mas mabilis at galante ang mga donations.

The real problem is not politics, economics or the rest. It is the simple fact that we humans are not nearly good enough to fix this kind of thing fast. We saw this with Katrina and with Sandy. We are not equipped to deal with a true catastrophe like the destruction of major cities. Consider: If 100,000 people have no fresh water, under the conditions in the Philippines, those 100,000 will need 300,000 gallons of water A DAY. That's just the water. How do you get it to the people? There are no roads and no communication system to find out where they are. Okay, parachute the water in. That's 2.1 million pounds of airlift per day for water alone. How about food? clothing? medical supplies? sewage disposal supplies? And before you get that stuff to the people, you have to get to the country. The human race cannot airlift hundreds of millions of pounds of supplies per day. You must use ships. That means the supplies have to get to the ports, get containerized, and loaded. Then the ships have to sail for days or weeks, get to the destination, hopefully have a port to dock at, get unloaded, broken down and then (and only then) reloaded on the aircraft for airdrop. It's been six days. All of that cannot be done, regardless of will or need.![]()

IMHO, maybe pag-asa should try to review their SOP on typhoon warnings. US navy had it at 315kph while pag-asa had it at 235kph. afaik, in expecting for worst scenarios, consider always the highest possible range. sana kinuha na natin ang warning na 315kph yon, hindi 235kph. palagay ko, napakalaki ng difference noon sa perception ng tao ang possible effects. kaya, maaring nagbago ang pananaw ng mga apektado at baka lumikas pa sila ng ibang lugar. one thing more, it is still a mystery to me why the president didnt heed with Mayor duterte of davao's suggestion na magdeclare ng state of national emergency. he could have move all logistical efforts towards tacloban on the second day. lahat ng heavy equipment ng dpwh, linemen ng meralco at iba pa, barko ng navy para evac na victims going to manila at cebu. nakakalungkot, as of 8pm today, abs-cbn reported that there are only 16 trucks utilized by the government fort he whole island of leyte. sana, hands-on si pnoy dito. wish ko lang.![]()

Of the 16 trucks only 8 are being used to transport relief goods to 40 municipalities for the whole province of Leyte. They should bring in more trucks to help in the distribution. Maybe they can rent or borrow some from the businessmen in Tacloban.

I think our disaster officials lacked that kind of quick thinking and probably not part of the so called master plan to engage the private sector and the general populace to help out in getting goods delivered, getting as many equipment quickly into the affected areas.
Roros for evacuation, extra ferries at Matnog, heavy equipment for debris clearing, PAL and CEB planes for relief goods transport, even private vehicles for relief transport.
We all see these barangay issued vehicles like innovas in tagaytay. If PNoy had requested that each municipality donate the use of just one vehicle per town, a convoy led by the military can surely get these vehicles to Matnog, thru the NPA infested Samar and into Leyte.
Hopefully, we can learn from this disaster and are better prepared for future ones.

Ano to micro management?
Dyos ko, LGU should pitch in.
Why not..you see all the relief efforts being done now thru the private sector. The resources are there, they just need to be marshalled. Even si Kris Aquino mag rerent ng plane sa sunday to distribute goods.
The LGU's are decimated in the area...how can they report to work? That's why outside resources are needed and are now flowing into the area.
BTW, I texted to volunteer for Sunday afternoon and got this reply. If any tsikoters want to help now, please proceed to Villamor. I can't go now because of my kids.
We need volunteers now until 4am. We're waiting for a flight to land anytime and another one at 3am. We need hot food & transportation for evacuees. Just come to the Villamor Grandstand if you're game.
i could understand why P-Noy resisted the suggestion to declare martial law; all that time akala ko nagdeclare na ng state of calamity/emergency, yun pala days after na tsaka nagdeclare. It puzzles me as well.
Not sure kung me effect yung pagkawala ng communication with the affected areas, especially the local government. But i think given even the initial reports, a state of calamity/emergency should have been declared within hours of Yolanda clearing the affected areas.
Though more importantly than the declaration of state of calamity/emergency is whether or not there was action taken immediately after...because if they were waiting for a state of calamity/emergency to be declared before they moved...
Not sure about the standing protocol for local governments during an impending typhoon(i.e. everybody knew it was coming), but i think it's been proven now that they should make themselves available before and after the calamity, and make sure communication lines are open. i think the inability to get in touch with the local government, police, etc. -- be it of their own faults or otherwise -- also added to the delays/confusion. Nobody knows the lay of the land better than them. You can send in all the rescue/relief workers, police, military, etc. but they'd just get lost in the city even under normal(non-disaster) conditions.
Why not? Madaling sabihin.
The National government are deploying all it can, and MMDA are doing the clearing operation so on and so fort. And the best thing we can do is blame them, madaling maging miron.
