I recall that before Yolanda you had the BBC, CNN, all the major news organizations and newspapers of the world saying that this was the strongest typhoon in recorded history.

The DILG secretary then, Mar Roxas, even flew in to warn the LGU's.

What does Tacloban Mayor Alfred Romualdez do? He disregarded all these warnings and goes to his BEACH RESORT, right in the path of Yolanda.

Yung nangyari noon nangyayari ulit ngayon.

We tend to NOT vote for the smartest candidates these days, and vote on those who have appeal to the masses instead or are entrenched oligarchies. This results in local government officials with a science aptitude way below that of an average high school student in the EU.

Case in point: the Mayor of Tacloban during Yolanda, Alfred Romualdez, brought his family to a beach resort where the strongest typhoon in recorded history was about to make landfall. Imagine how many lives could have been saved had he ordered a mandatory evacuation instead.
Ideally nga PNA, OCD at NDRRMC na nga dapat. Kaso for the former most are MassCom, and sagot nila kaya nga kami nga-MassCom para makaiwas sa science at math. For the latter 2, same din, good speakers, but not well-versed sa technicals, those that do understand are few and far between.

Going to say this again but the way I see it Taal has not erupted for so long a time that most people in the area can't accept that they gambled by living near a volcano and lost. Happy times have ended.

The situation in Taal is so different from what I saw and experienced at Mayon.

due to lack of education / dullness / inability to absorb anything above grade 1 english, a lot of pinoys operate on gut feel / intuition / faith and it works for them

    (explains Nazareno Traslacion)

all their lives they survived / thrived on bahala-na-ang-Diyos and diskarte

kaya madami pinoy see no need for science
