Philvocs really need a communication expert to bring their message across. Someone tag can break down the scientific terms being used and explain everything in simple manner.

Wala eh hinde talaga maintindihan.

Yes, they badly need one indeed. Someone whose job includes reading news sites and socmed to see the "major misconceptions" and shot it down before it circulates even more and be read by people with less discernment.

That is not PHIVOLCS' job, that is the job of the LGU and the DILG and the PCOO.

We tend to NOT vote for the smartest candidates these days, and vote on those who have appeal to the masses instead or are entrenched oligarchies. This results in local government officials with a science aptitude way below that of an average high school student in the EU.

Case in point: the Mayor of Tacloban during Yolanda, Alfred Romualdez, brought his family to a beach resort where the strongest typhoon in recorded history was about to make landfall. Imagine how many lives could have been saved had he ordered a mandatory evacuation instead.

But it is the Philvocs who could explain.

Maybe more cooperation with Philvocs and DILG/LGU must be done. Para same page sila and isang mensahe lang nga sasabihin sa taumbayan.

The DILG is on the same page. It's the local LGU officials (i.e. Cong. Tolentino of Tagaytay, Tanauan Vice-Mayor, Talisay Mayor) who are not.

And if these LGU officials do not even listen to the DILG then they probably won't let a bunch of brown made-in-the-Philippines nerdy scientists tell them what to do.

Ideally nga PNA, OCD at NDRRMC na nga dapat. Kaso for the former most are MassCom, and sagot nila kaya nga kami nga-MassCom para makaiwas sa science at math. For the latter 2, same din, good speakers, but not well-versed sa technicals, those that do understand are few and far between.

Going to say this again but the way I see it Taal has not erupted for so long a time that most people in the area can't accept that they gambled by living near a volcano and lost. Happy times have ended.

The situation in Taal is so different from what I saw and experienced at Mayon.
