right off the top of my head I could name at least 5 already

- Distant relative shot himself in the temple (80s)
- Brother of a friend hanged himself (mid 90s)
- Cousin's cousin hanged himself (late 2k)
- Tita's in law jumped off her condo (2011)

My first BF drank insecticide and was at the ICU for several days. I have a good friend that also overdosed and was confined in the hospital (long time BF is Chinese and they broke up because of the race issue)

The suicide gene is hereditary so some people are predisposed to cause harm on themselves.

I know it's a nightmare for guys to have a girl threaten suicide. Sure fire way for a girl to drive a guy away even more.

Yung nagpakamatay sa detergent, arte lang yun. If that person is serious iinom yan acetone or baygon.

Some people have a low threshold for emotional pain/disappointments. If suicide runs in the family, lagot na.

I had an ex like that. I knew he was capable of committing suicide because I was the one who stayed with him at the hospital when he got confined. There was a time I wanted out of our relationship but he would always threaten to hurt himself so I couldn't leave. My conscience will not be able to take it. Pero may hangganan din lahat ng tao. He did something na napahiya ako sa kaibigan ko. The next day, I just stopped talking to him so he could not threaten me with suicide anymore. Buhay pa naman siya.

I also had a suitor that went hysterical nung na busted so I took back what I said He gave up eventually but up until now nagpaparamdam pa rin.

WASHINGTON - Suicide rates among US adults aged 35-64 are on the rise -- with more Americans now taking their lives than dying in car accidents, according to official statistics released Thursday.

Motor vehicle accidents killed 33,687 people in 2010 -- well below the 38,364 who died from suicide in the same year, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said.

The spike in suicides was seen exclusively among US adults aged 35-64, who saw a 28 percent rise over the last decade, the CDC added.

And the numbers were even more stark for those in their 50s, who saw a nearly 50 percent jump in suicide rates.

"Suicide is a tragedy that is far too common," said CDC Director Tom Frieden. "This report highlights the need to expand our knowledge of risk factors so we can build on prevention programs."

Previous research and prevention efforts had focused on the young and the elderly, but the CDC said the new study indicates the focus should be expanded to the middle-aged.

"It is important for suicide prevention strategies to address the types of stressors that middle-aged Americans might be facing and that can contribute to suicide risk," said Linda Degutis, director of CDC's National Center for Injury Prevention and Control.

In 2010, an average of nearly 18 out of every 100,000 people aged 35-64 died from suicide -- four more than a decade earlier, the CDC said.

Among non-Hispanic Whites and Native Americans, annual suicide rates leaped 40 percent and 65 percent, respectively.

Nearly three times as many men as women in this age group killed themselves: around 27 men compared to eight women per 100,000 in 2010.

And the CDC found that, while most suicides were committed with guns, the number of people dying from suffocation and hanging rose the fastest -- by more than 80 percent -- over the last decade.

Consolation to/from family members. Cry your pain to your mom. Ask for her advice. My mom has saved me a lot of times from this.

I agree, suicidal genes run in the family. There are people who are really weak emotionally. Funny, cause most that are emotionally weak are even intellectually gifted, they know what to do and yet their nerves are eating the best in them. I feel for the persons who committed or those who are thinking to commit it. Be strong. Pray. Share your problems. Remember those love ones who will weep and you will leave behind. Can you imagine the pain you will leave them?
