And that the Swastika is a fertility/prosperity symbol?

And that our flag is Satanic, because it has three pentagrams... 666... (oh well, 555 )

Hehehe... its not my opinion niky. That's why I quoted it.

Yes, but whose opinion is it? Christ's? That's why it's very hard to quantify such claims. A lot of warring factions have labelled various practices and symbols as satanic. Why is the pentagram Satanic, for instance? Did the devil burn it into Christ's forehead as he lay dying on the cross? Why is 666 the number of the Beast?

It's all in the interpretation. And with nearly 2000 years of history, there are a lot of filters and interpreters between us and the true source... and it's not the Bible. Jesus himself never swore by it... not even all the older books... (remember, he was against the strict following of senselessly brutal Judaic law). The collection, collation and sanctification of the Bible was done many centuries after his time.

Kaya nga, and I still ask... which is right, Jesus or the Bible?

O sige, kayo dyan... pang-beer and chips na ito... wala nang popcorn.

Jesus must have done something right, because even 2,000 years later, people still know him, thanks to the bible.
The bible, now that they say is not entirely true, may turn out that most of what it says about Jesus are entirely false.

    OT: salamat sa beer!

Umm you mean I failed Math 21 because of 'chance'? But it turned out for the better kasi kung tinuloy ko yung course i would've been kicked out of the school na. The good Lord does exist, kahit pikon me nun.

Sir veed, some people need an icon to focus on po. Others, pede na do without.

Why do you have to pray to Mary or any other saint, can't you go straight to God himself or may kailangan pang daanan like government offices?

    Labo.
Ito, sa tingin ko imbento lang ng Church yan. Or maybe it's some advanced form of iconic focus? Dunno.

Sir city, the cross na parang sa red cross symbolized peace, bfore Christ pa.

The Christian cross naman was a Roman torture/execution implement which was taken up to remind of His sacrifice (which, btw, I explain as leadership by example, that's why He didn't go zapping all those pesky Romans).

Re Satanism... talagang opportunistic lang naman mga yan e. St. Peter, baliktad cross nya when executed... doesn't mean he (or his executioner) is Satanist. Btw, Satanism medyo bulok na ideology yan. The word satan is merely a Hebrew word for "harang". That's why Jesus told Peter "Get away from me Satan." Tigas talaga kasi ulo ni San Pedro, hinaharangan nya si Christ nun.

Sir flagg, I think its only logical that everyone needs an icon.

Imagine the difficulty opening a program if the icon is nowhere to be found!
    Joke! :bwahaha:

No. A lot of people breakaway from the Catholic faith because its priests and its leaders are meddling too much in politics. One mention of Fr. Roberto Reyes' name will make you cringe of the thought of being a Catholic.

Anyway, the Holy Trinity is written in the Bible. So it doesn't matter whether you're a Catholic or just a Muslim reading the Christian Bible. So you can't penalize the Catholic faith for preaching about the Holy Trinity, because it's written there ever since.

Now, the great flood, the 7 plagues, etc have scientific explanations as these are not considered unnatural.. natural meaning occuring in nature. Obviously the first examples stated are unnatural so science cannot explain that.
That's exactly what I'm talking about. I don't think these dramatic miracles suddenly stopped simply because God got tired with it or God is testing peoples' faith nowadays - that's how us humans are "interpreting" the sudden disappearance of these miracles in modern times. The truth is, no one really knows why the miracles have stopped. And the miracles didn't stop gradually. It was a complete, sudden stop.

The Bible DID mention about dramatic miracles that will AGAIN take place in the future, written in the Book of the Apocalypse. But instead of seeing an actual horse flying in mid-air (which science will probably have a hard time to explain), most Bible scholars treat the events in the apocalypse as more "symbolical" rather than "actual" events.

That's a different issue. People use those inanimate objects simply to draw or enhance their inspiration. Idolatry is worshipping the wooden statue itself as god. Christians know that the Jesus Christ inside the churches is NOT the actual Jesus Christ - it's just a piece of wood.

Just the same way that you have a photograph of your wife and kids on your office table because you want to be inspired at work everytime you see them. It's the same way with the rosary or the statues. Everyone knows they're just friggin statues anyway.

Now THAT is a "culture" promulgated by the Catholic Church. Let's not confuse religious culture with the actual faith itself. But I agree that sometimes, these cultures of the Roman Catholic church are getting in the way and is missing the point.

Example, praying the rosary. Is repeating the same prayer over and over again have more effect than if you recite that prayer only once? But then again, if repeating a prayer will strengthen a person's faith that a positive outcome will come out of it, then I won't stop him.

Another religious culture by Catholics - religious ceremonies are very SCRIPTED. Even your response to a written question by the priest is already written on the piece of booklet handed out to you during church service.

It's a culture and tradition. People should know the difference.

A lot of Catholics are inspired by the Beatle's song, "Let It Be", because a portion of the lyrics says, "When I find myself in times of trouble, Mother Mary comes to me, speaking words of wisdom, let it be....".

Paul McCartney later clarified that the Mother Mary he was talking about was "his" own biological mother. And her name was Mary.

Not everything in the Bible is true...
