May dalawa akong pocket knife, Smith&Wesson parehas. Yung una nabili ko sa Lazada for 700 I think. not sure kung over priced ba yun since it was my first, satisfied naman ako sa sharpness. Though yung pangalawa kong nabili ay sa World trade center last december. for 500? Maganda yung color. matte black though not that sharp compared to my first one.

got a new knife today. extremely sharp out of the box. very tight fit(too tight I guess?). has some centering issue but that's typical of price point of SOG.

The way some knives are priced(upwards of $100), any would-be assailant would just let you stab him, hold on to your knife, then run away with it ^_^

i was backwatching Forged in Fire recently, and noticed that Murray Carter was a contestant in Season 1(Moro Kris ). Sadly he didn't win as he had problems with his kiln.

i think the guy went to Japan for 17-ish years to learn bladesmithing. i once caught a video of him sharpening a knife on hollow blocks and newspaper ^_^

My team lead from Finland bought a bolo (about 1 foot long) in Tagaytay last night. Ayaw nya isabay pauwi dahil wala sya luggage and iwas din sa possible issues sa airport. Instead, he asked me if i can just send it to him. Pwede po ba ito? If yes, pano and ano courier pwede? Thanks.

No idea sir, but if were you, i'd ask LBC, JRS, etc. ...although with the ISIS/migrant issue in EU, it could get iffy.

A bit off topic, but i'm just curious: why is it that axes aren't that prevalent in the PH, or in Asia for that matter? Of course we do use axes(in the olden days) to chop down trees, but in each household, why is the itak/sundang/etc. more common, while in the US, you usually see axes?

Well, my theory is there is no need for an axe, in the east coast where the original 13 colonies are, its cold, houses where made if heavy materials, logs and stuff, you need an axe to chop large trees and firewood, here houses are made of lighter materials like nipa and kawayan, we have kaingin for our firewood.

That same bolo was offered to me also in Tagaytay for 1,500 which I respectfully declined. Seller keep on insisting until the price came down to 300. I gave him a 500 peso bill and did not bother to get the change.

my guess is, it's hard to split kawayan and other small-caliber wood, using an axe. a bolo or itak will do the job better.

Sabagay no...it doesn't make sense to build a log cabin in PH given our climate; building materials are usually light(bamboo/nipa/palm leaves)...so it's more about the environment rather than preference

i'm curious about the Tagaytay itak; saan po yan binebenta?
