Freeways are the most fun. As soon as I get on the ramp, I accelerate to traffic speed like a scared cat. Then, I back off a bit as I find room to merge. Once you merge? Go with the flow, slowing down as needed if you're on the slow (right) lane. You also need to keep some distance between you and the car up front so there's room for others to merge.

The freeways within city limits can be daunting during rush hour. But, once you get outside the city and there is a lot less traffic, it's relaxing enough to use cruise control.

Anyway, your anxiety is normal. My wife is the same way even though she had already driven coast to coast using the freeway. She still won't use it unless she has no choice.

I don't mind driving in the Expressway at the Philippines. It's a variety of reasons on why I am anxious - it's not my car, I only have a PH license and tickets here are SO EXPENSIVE.

Don't get a speeding ticket. The last one I got cost me $250. I was doing 52 mph at a 40 mph zone. But, don't go too slow either. You can get ticketed for that too.

And that is why I don't want to drive here. That's a lot of money. In the PH, I don't think a speeding ticket would cost more than P5k. Not sure. But definitely not over P10k

Just do the speed limit and you'll be fine. If other drivers think you're too slow? They'll simply pass you and that's it. I don't think a slow driver ever got into a road rage situation....unless you cut somebody off.

During our first year here, we actually had a grandma and a grandpa stop in the middle of a six-lane avenue so they can read a street sign. Normally, I wouldn't care. But, they stopped right in front of me and I had to slam the brakes.

Off today. Tired today after clearing out weeds from the back yard. It was a hot day and I had to wear thick sweat pants and long sleeve shirt plus hat. Just about every plant here tries to poke me with needle-like thorns and barbed tiny hair fibers that can penetrate leather work gloves. Very irritating.

I smell like rotten beer and probably have mild dehydration. Oh, well.
