Subject: student dialogue sa intra kanina!!!
Message: walang nangyari sa student dialogue kanina sa intramuros, final decision na daw ung MALAYAN UNIVERSITY. mei welga daw sa main sa monday, 7:30 onwards. see you there. mei leader na welga, si crisostomo ng NEW BUILDER and mei permit na.. so un.. PLEASE SUPPORT MAPUA'S name for god's sake.
:fire:

The professor/s are only there to guide and impart their knowledge and implement what is in their curriculum; and it all depends on the students' ability to comprehend, evaluate and apply.

Venting ire on its teaching principles and standards will not help its cause lest albeit its demise.
I somewhat agree with you na nasa estudayante. Pero the instructors play I would say 50% of your education. If you think you don't need them, mag-self study ka na lang. Or be like Bill Gates and Micahel Dell.

I questioned two of my instructors [two different subjects] kung bakit minali ang sagot ko where in fact my answer were right. Both of them said, hindi raw iyon ang tinuro nila. I solved the problems on my own and got to the same final answer. My solutions were both clearly shown in the papers. One of them even walked out of the classroom dahil she sensed that the class was behind me. Sorry if I offended you or the school, pero its a fact [at least for me]. And I did not say lahat, I did name some good ones. I'm just saying, don't be fooled by the reputation of the school, just try your best sa Board exam. That might or will surely get you farther.

    Jesi,

Point taken. But I must admit that your unfortunate experience is some what an isolated case. You said in your previous post "though there were some real good quality instructors, there were plenty of I would say below" standard. I think WE the students and graduates of Mapua are not only after the reputation of the school but the quality of education per se. I concur with you that there are bad apples in the teaching industry but we do not have to make those unfortunate experience as a general outward occurance in every school. Lessons we learned from school are only 30% and rest falls on the part of the students. That is why in Architecture Board Exams, we are required to have 2 years of diversified experience prior to taking up the Licensure Exams, and that is not even taught in school. I think you get my point. Thanks for sharing your experience. By the way, if you don't mind me asking sir, are you a Mapuan alumnus?

FYI, the founder of Mapua Institute of Technology, Don Tomas Mapua is an alumnus of Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He was conferred and honored by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology for his contributions in instilling the teaching principles of MIT USA to Mapua back then. He is an honorary alumni member and consultant of that school. We can call Massachusetts Institute of Technology as our sister school so to speak.
I guess now....it's now down under the drain.

What happened at the student dialogue: (emailed by gc group)

    1. Approve na ng Board of Trustees ang Malayan Colleges.

    2. Approve na ng CHED ang Malayan Colleges.

    3. Maiiba ang pangalan ng iyong MAPUA.

    4. Mapapalitan ito ng MALAYAN COLLEGES.

    5. Ang Malayan Insurance ay pagmamay-ari ng Yuchengco.

    6. Under Malayan Colleges, andito ang different schools. At instead of having the schools named after their courses… ito ang magiging pangalan nila:

    a. Engineering courses, IT and Architecture = Mapua Institute of Technology, School of Engineering, Information Technology and Architecture.
    b. School of Nursing = San Lorenzo Ruiz College of Health Sciences
    c. Business Admin = ET Yuchengco School of Business Adminitration
    d. Magkakaron din ng College of Languages, Humanities and Social Sciences
    e. Magkakaroon din ng college of Science

Lahat ito, under Malayan Colleges. So kung Nursing ka, ikaw ay magiging graduate ng Malayan Colleges, San Lorenzo Ruiz College of Health Sciences. Walang Mapua sa pangalan mo.

Ang sabi niya, "because we are after the university status".

    9. "Okay, sige na. We understand the benefits of the university status, but we would just like to ask you why do you have to change the name of the school? Even if we are going to be a university, changing the name into Malayan is not necessary."

    12. Lahat ng students sa MAPÚA ay against sa pagbabago ng pangalan na to. AGAINST KAMI SA ISSUE NA TO! NARIRINIG NIYO BA?

    14. Una, ang QUARTER SYSTEM. Nagulat ang lahat nang ito'y I-implement. Pero sige, "okay, we'll try to look at the bright side kahit na HINDI NILA TAYO SINABIHAN."

    15. Pangalawa. Pero okay lang, "sige, this is for the good of the school naman, kahit na… obviously wala namang specialty ang school sa Business Admin and sa Psychology. Pero sige, baka may bright side naman."

    16. Pangatlo. THEY WILL CHANGE YOUR NAME WITHOUT YOUR CONSENT. Those persons who sit in the board of trustees, together with CHED, have approved the changing of MAPÚA INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY into MALAYAN COLLEGES.

    17. Pagkatapos ng Forum, marami pa ang galit.

    21. Bukas, SABADO.

This really is a "first". I recall na nung kapanahunan namin we rather make reports and review than join student rallies Sana nga lang this time it is heard and they would make concensus to retain the "mapua" name and satisfy both parties

    updates:

ilang beses kinanta ang mapua hymn, lahat halos naiiyak habang kinakanta at sinigaw ang "M" and the "I" and the "T". lalo na nung nagdasal.

    NO TO MALAYAN!!!
    MAPUA WILL ALWAYS BE MAPUA!!!!

    VIVA MAPUA!!!

goodbye mapua, welcome malayan university?
