yes, nobody can argue with that....but it's not a simple arguement to justify the change in the name of the school....YGC bought mapua institute of technology including the royalty name 'Mapua' because they wanted to retain the reputation and maintain the same number of student/enrollees of their school. the mapua family managed that school with a very modest earning i believe. imagine...i was able to finish my 5-year mechanical engineering course with the tuition fee of only P1,500/sem from the time i entered that school up to the time i finished my course! at that time...it was already one of the cheapest (UST tuition was P3,500/sem at that time), yet the most 'reputable' school in engineering...but the YGC? these greedy people don't mind getting more money in the name of 'education'...

    hehe.

AFAIK, the mapua name will still be retained in the college of engineering / architecture right?

it is as if mapua will be bundled with other colleges to form a university. mapua will still be there but it won't be the front show anymore.

1 year ahead ayata sya sa akin. ME April '91 ako gradweyt...seguro wala ng tatalo sa experience ko sa mga professors sa mapua...yung mechanics at strenght of materials (10 units total) ko under sison, yung frustrated scientist na meron sariling formula (ayaw ng formula sa books ) at lahat ng exam take home pero iba-iba ang sagot bawat estudyante...sison was the 'real' definition of frustrated scientist.....na under din ako sa 2 'binggo' professors - binagsak  ako ni guiang (older brother of physics professor guiang) sa integral calculus....take 2 ko kay bernardino...

Ahhhhhh....i remember Ms. Bernardino! I'm also a victim of that divergent and aberrant professora. Who could ever forget the BINGGOS! Well its either you hate them or you detest them and no matter what the consequences, I recouped my pride outside the college thru experience and hard work. Nobody can put down a resilient Mapuan!

Oh, and who could ever forget the professor who walks down the stairs backwards and had a leashed chalk box as if it was his dog. Bwahahaha.....ONLY IN MAPUA!
As i've said....RESILIENCY is in the blood of a true Mapuan and no BINGGO's nor Yuchengco's can ever put us down.

I had been under those intsructors before (sison, bonus, bingo) iba talaga trip nung mga yun. Then higher years naman (Im an ME batch 87) mga tipong walang tulugan when submitting reports and projects, . But it really is an enjoyable experience, na i could say was really worth it.

I hope the "Mapua" legacy lives on........

    CSC OFFICIAL STATEMENT

Today, The National Association of Mapua Alumni (NAMA) held a dialogue with the President of the Institute, Dr. Reynaldo B. Vea. The NAMA gave Dr. Vea their proposal for the possible reconsideration of the decision of the Board of Trustees regarding the issue of placing Mapua Institute of Technology (MIT) under the Malayan Colleges. The two options as proposed by NAMA are as follows:

    • ”Mapua Institute of Technology” shall be the name of the university and under MIT will be the different colleges that will be put by the Yuchengco Group of Companies (YGC); or
    • Mapua Institute of Technology shall be a separate school, independent and without any association to the Malayan Colleges.

This proposal of the NAMA shall be evaluated and be decided upon by the Board of Trustees. Thus, regular classes will resume starting on February 16, 2005 , Wednesday while above the mentioned proposals are being discussed. We request the students to stand by for further announcements from the CSC and we also advise the students not to believe any rumors or statements not coming from the CSC. We'll keep you posted and standby for further announcements.
hindi ko alam kung good o bad news to. pero sana naman maayos maging desisyon.

let us all hope for the best.

    thanks for all the support.

visit the UNITED MAPUANS and CENTRAL STUDENT COUNCIL website for further announcements.

    mukhang lumalabo laban natin

eto muna alma mater song natin. kanta muna kayo. hehehe. naiiyak nanaman tuloy ako.

    MAPUA ALMA MATER SONG

Alma Mater, a song from the builders,
You Embody the goal to attain,
Hear a song from the hearts of the wielders,
Of Compass and transit and chain.

    REFRAIN

Alma Mater, your name and your story,
We raise our glad voices thee,
We will strive for the fame and the glory,
    Of the M and I and T.

We will follow the light and the new prints,
We will trace on the footpaths of arts,
For our land, we makers of blueprints,
Will struggle to fulfill our part.

    (refrain)

When away from your doors have been parted,
Thy sons in the flight of the years,
Still conscious and firm and whole hearted,
We will hail thee with songs and with cheers

    (refrain)

hmmm, ok naman sa akin pre....

    updates:

sa sat or next week. Hep! Wag muna kayo magrereact. Ganito yan, once
na nagrally tayo, mapapawalang bisa yung napagkasunduan na
reconsideration. NGAYUN, yes we know na delaying tactics to, and it
is to our disadvantage. Nagpalabas tau ng deadline 1 week On February
28, 2005 they will give us an answer. YES or NO walang teka lang
walang extension. Bakit 1 week? It didn't take 1 day lang bago
napagisipan ang changing of name to "Malayan" kaya we are giving them
1 week to do it right. Samantalang tayong mga students, we will go to
class and we will show them na hindi gulo ang habol natin. PERO, to
show na we are one, and the fight has not died down, meron tayong
    color coding of damit.

TOM (friday) is white shirt day and the rest is as follows: Saturday
= yellow Monday = Red Tuesday = Blue Wednesday = Black

    here's the letter from UM.

    February 18, 2005

    To All Concerned:

The United Mapuans would like to inform everybody that we will be submitting our position to the president of our school, Dr. Reynaldo B. Vea stating:

“The students are giving your kind office until February 23, 2005 to finally come up with your office's stand. We are expecting for only two answers, a yes if the decision is final, and no if you are granting our simple request. We are expecting your office for final statement by February 23, 2005, 4:30pm. If in case your office will disregard us students with this simple inquiry, we will be taking it as a yes.”

Starting Monday until Wednesday next week (Feb. 21-23), we will come to the MIT campus in Intramuros but will boycott all our classes. It means that we are requesting everybody to not come to class by the said days, but instead, attend the daily gatherings at the quadrangle. We will all gather again in MIT intramuros grounds at exactly 4:30 pm on Wednesday, February 23, 2005, for the announcement of the stand of the administration.

We are hoping for your trust with us and your kind consideration regarding our stand.

    United Mapuans Goals and Objectives

    * To protect the institute by maintaining and upholding its legacy for the past 80 years.
    * To be a separate entity from Malayan Colleges and to retain the name Mapua Institute of technology as the name of the institutes.
    * To have a standard protocol regarding proper and formal consultation on vital issues concerning the student populace.
    * Constitutional Convention to be participated in by students, alumni, parents, and faculty.

Mapuans, don't give up.....keep on fighting!!! We need to get our name back!
I'm one of the alumni that strongly disagree for changing out our school name and condemn the present and disgraceful management of our Alma Mater. ME batch 87
