You feel lighter contributing more greenhouse gases, harmful emissions & particulate matter into the atmosphere? Petrol engines produce around 30% less NOx than diesels, generally.

I have a different view of nature, trav. I donÂ’t believe in taking care of the environment because nature can take care of herself. We, humans, think too highly of ourselves if we are to believe that we can alter the course of nature.

Case in point: Japan. Being one of the most advanced societies in the world, Japan has more environmental laws in place than say the US or even Europe. And yet, look at them in the past few years. They experienced more natural disasters: high magnitude quakes, tsunamis, freak typhoons and even two-story flash floods than any of us, Asian countries.

Why is that? Because the Japanese want to live peacefully, orderly and even minimalistically. They lost their purpose. It may also explain why they have high suicide rates too.

I am more inclined to believe that nature is alive in a sense that she feels with us. if a society or a civilization has a lot of things that are useless or that are without a higher purpose, she will jolt us.

i have observed this na in some of the recert major calamities. Nature rarely attacks big cities which are very very active. it seems her victims are sleepy rural towns or smaller communities that seem to have detached themselves to the flow of the modern world.

VATICAN CITY (CNS) -- As well as disrupting air travel for millions of people in Europe, the eruption of the Eyjafjallajokull volcano is having an impact on inhabitants of Iceland, the country's bishop said.
"Imports are blocked, and this creates problems in vital sectors such as hospitals. And what will become of the plant and animal life affected by the toxic particles released by the ash cloud?" Bishop Pierre Burcher of Reykjavik told Vatican Radio on April 19.
Bishop Burcher said life in Reykjavik has not been drastically affected by the eruption, mainly because prevailing winds have carried the ash cloud away from the city. But people are worried about the future, he said.
"Another volcano, Katla, which is close to Eyjafjallajokull but is bigger and more dangerous, has often reawakened in the past. What will happen?" he said.
The bishop added that if the eruption continues, it could greatly disrupt the country's tourism industry in the summer.
Experts in Iceland have voiced concern about the wind changing direction and bringing ash over more populated areas. Some are worried about the long-term effects of the ash on agriculture.
The eruption has also caused flooding that has damaged roads and bridges and led to some school closings.
The Swiss-born Bishop Burcher said that with its far-reaching effects, the volcanic eruption has illustrated the meaning of globalization in modern society.
"No event, even if small and distant, can leave the rest of the world indifferent," Bishop Burcher said.
Iceland has around 320,000 inhabitants, including about 10,000 Catholics.

Your thoughts lack coherence. There's no direct causation between a civilization's purpose and natural disasters. It's been happening since prehistoric times. The fall of Roman empire wasn't caused by nature or God's wrath. It's mostly due to internal decay.

Civilizations, no matter how advanced, will always follow a cyclical pattern of rise and fall. Nothing is constant in this world.
