there was controversy about the ruby towers construction at that time.
not sure if being in chinatown or being a (non?)-chinese had anything to do with it.
but i think government started looking at the building code at that time, or lack thereof.
i woke up early morning because of the earthquake, but went back to sleep.
when i woke up at the scheduled time, however, there was much talk over the radio, about this building collapse in chinatown.

SINGAPORE – A total of 10 cyborg cockroaches from Singapore have been sent to Myanmar to assist with search-and-rescue efforts after a 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck on March 28, killing more than 3,000 people.
The insects were flown into Myanmar and joined the Singapore Civil Defence Force’s (SCDF) Operation Lionheart contingent on March 30.
This is the first time in the world such cyborgs have been used in a humanitarian operation.
It is also the first time insect-hybrid robots have been deployed in the field.
