Getting slightly off topic: This story sounds iffy for me, like we're not getting the whole story. Baka naman medyo unusual yung kurso niya(.e.g not accounting, business admin, engg, etc.)? Baka me problema sa personality? i know this guy back in college who graduated with an engineering(?) course, pero consider this: he infected a whole computer lab with a virus to get revenge for getting his diskette infected; he knocked on our university's IT Center, asking where he can learn how to make a virus
Would you hire him? :D
i know a lot of people who only know basic arithmetic who are getting by, or at least are not being palaboy. If he's given up, then that's his choice; then his parent's sacrifice truly was in vain.
Getting slightly back to topic: me kwento dati yung isang professor sa amin on how he became known as a terror: a group of students from an "IT" school took up the Master's course at my university; they were all cocky and smart-assed, saying that "alam na namin yan" when the professor started discussing. The problem now is that, aside from being really smart, me pagka gago din yung professor. So they made the exams excruciatingly hard, and by the end of the term only a handful were left to finish the course. Their summa cum laude only got a passing score.
My point? It's not just the diploma, it's also matters where that diploma came from. It's good to be summa cum laude, but each and every college and university also has its summa cum laudes. And not all summa cum laudes are equal.

suma cumlaude pero homeless and palaboy? malamang malaki problema nyan..
i know people na high school graduate lang pero kahit papaano nakapasok sa mga call centers.. and they're earning in the 20Ts maybe more now..
so wala din yan sa school or kung nakatapos o hindi.. yeah i agree pag nakatapos sa magandang school.. medyo madali magka work.. pero kahit hindi ka don sa top 3 schools nangggaling.. or kahit hindi ka pa nakatapos nang college.. kung masipag ka lang at maabilidad.. makaka kuha ka din nang work at aasenso ka din..

It would be ridiculous to deny that companies dont discriminate an applicant education. There are many firms that only employ new grads only from certain schools. In architecture, numerous firms are UST only wherein any UST graduate will be prioritized against a Cum Laude from Mapua or Feu. In large organizations, such as DMCI or etc. would give a UST, UP, or DLSU engineer a higher salary right out of college (a graduate from those 3 colleges would easily get 20, whereas others would get 12-15k).
The main advantage of graduating from a prestigious university is getting a first job. It will be much easier to get a job and they will undoubtedly pay you a little more. At a young age (25-30), your main accomplishment will still be the university you graduated from. However one day it will no longer matter, for your accomplishments will no longer be you education.
Nobody will care where a successful 60 year old professional graduated from, however he will care where his potential interns graduated from.

Tagal na to sir.
Basta sabi nya, andami raw nya inapply-an. Pero pag nakita raw yung school nya, "tatawagan ka na lang namin". Nai-ignore yung credentials nya.
Sinubok nya mag apply as call center agent.

Ganun kahirap ang buhay kaya you need every edge you can get habang bata ka pa.
Pero syempre in every rule there's an exception, kahit highschool graduate lang pero maganda hired agad tapos dun ka sa office and hindi sa manufacturing area magtatrabaho.
