A couple of my older cousins also went to ceu din, saya daw.

If you have a break in between classes, mga 3-4 hours, check-in daw sa motel sa Sta. Mesa. And going to the next class with your GF na bagong ligo.

Or stay inside the movie theatre in Sm the whole breaktime, doing you know what.

That's good to know na meron pa rin underprivileged. There's prestige kasi getting in Pisay kaya impression ko puro well off na din there.

I guess may malaking proportion of middle class and above since those who pass the entrance exams have already undergone a lot of preparation in terms of attending the better primary schools.

And then the same applies to college.

    So here again schools matter.

Then there are the others - MAPUA, Ateneo colleges from the provinces (Naga, CDO, Davao, Zamboanga), San Carlos (Cebu), Silliman (Dumaguete), and MSU. When training starts, everyone starts at zero and you have to prove your worth. Wala na basis yung school. Even more so when already on the job. Your school won’t be much of an importance if your attitude towards work is bad.

    go back further

    before school matters, parents matter

educated parents provide a stable and nurturing environment for kids (good home life = good for intellectual development)

educated parents --> well paying jobs --> can afford to send children to private pre-school/kinder, elementary, high school

maganda ang foundation kaya sisiw ang entrance exams ng mga top universities

Left ACN more than 10 years ago. AC became ACN in 2001. When I joined AC, there was like 600-700 people only in Manila and a third of that is assigned in different parts of the world. Sa old MSE building pa office namin.

Lamang pa rin those from good schools for Pisay admission.

My batchmates from public schools, sobrang talino talaga kaya nakapasa Pisay. Those from top private schools - nadadala ng review classes and good curriculum, so even if they aren’t inherently brilliant, kayang makapasok.

Single most common grade school of Pisay students? Ateneo Grade School. In my batch, over 5% were from AGS alone.

    back in the day,
there was only one pshs campus, in QC.
and it screened its applicants from all over the country, ranking them without respect for place of origin.
well, 80+% of its freshmen batch back then, were from manila and suburbs.
and the largest school source back then, was UP elem.

it was found out much later, that a significant number of students from arrhneo (and probably other equivalent schools) who passed the screening, did not push thru into enroling, and enroled elsewhere. parental decision, daw.

Makes me wonder about the dynamics in Pisay because of the diverse background of the students unlike other schools na more or less the same. Yung friend ko he said he had batchmates that live in the same village, one is a son of a homeowner, the other is a son of a house staff. Doc, pensaba que sola pasa en pelicula!

    oh, it's very real.

    this is my theory.
at that age, the kids are still malleable and adaptable.
and because they are in a sort-of enclosed environment in school, there may be little chance of one 'showing off', intentionally or otherwise, their obvious economic superiority.

    but as in all humanity,
    there will always be... "jerks".

why naman doc? baka sa panahon mo yan *peace* In our generation, pride ng parents to have a child studying in Pisay. I had a BFF when I was grade school age who comes from a good family, her parents were disappointed when she didn't pass Pisay (St Scho na siya nagtuloy ng HS then Ateneo for College)

we got hold of a newspaper clipping listing down the successful applicants to a 1970s freshman class.
a number of those names did not enrol in pshs.
we actually asked these people, 30-40 years later, why they did not enrol.

    the top four answers:
    1. its a public school! (this was in the early 70s.)
    2. it's a new school, with no track record! established just 7 years earlier.
    3. malayo sa bahay natin! no dorms yet, back then. travel not as plentiful as now. back then, going to fairview, was considered an undertaking.
    4. you were so happy with your school friends; we couldn't bear to pull you away from them.

    of course, today is different.
today, there are actually review schools, to help the applicant hurdle the entrance exam.

namimili mga tao sino titirahin o sino titira sa kanila

kung sosy babae ayaw naman siguro nila jologs ang titira sa kanila hehe

kung lalake mas ego boost pag nakatira ng sosy girl

tsaka for both s3xes ang perception mas "malinis" ang sosy people (iwas std)
