That's the classic argument between a Mechanic and a Surgeon...

The Mechanic operates on the engine when it's "not alive". Then cranks it,- takes it for a drive and if necessary do some more adjustments and operation...

The Surgeon operates on the person when he/she's breathing.... And then assists in the natural way for the person to heal and recover....

there's an old anecdote, similar to that.
the surgeon was looking over the mechanic's shoulder, as the latter was working on the dismantled surgeon's car's engine. it was laid out neatly on the mechanic's engine cradle.
"looks complicated, don't you think? just like your patients, i gather."
"just about. but i do it with the engine running."

    OT.

If the goal is financial success or wealth then I don't think so anymore. There is so much money to make on the internet (social media, online selling, gaming etc) kahit mga walang tinapos

Doc these vloggers and online sellers make enough money to retire in 10 yrs. They can invest in multiple properties and put up businesses (store or restaurant)

As parents, how far will you go to get your children into good schools?

Just finished watching Sky Castle and it tackles the sensitive topic of excessive competition and pressure for students to get into the top Korean universities.

I'm wondering if parents here also go to great lengths to get their children into our top schools (UP/ADMU/DLSU). Yung tipong super tutor, review classes, etc.

It shouldn't be too hard if they came from good gs/hs? I mean if a parent could afford to send to top colleges, the child probably came from a top gs/hs. In our family we place more importance on the GS, dyan ang values formation

Higher probability, yes, pero I still have lots of batchmates from gradeschool na hindi naman nakapasok ng Taft man lang. Typically CSB landing.

But yeah maybe college nga isn't too hard to get into, but law or med school much tougher.

For example, to get into UP College of Med you need at least a 98 NMAT and cum laude in college. The only friend I have na lower than 99 NMAT na nakapasok dun is a daughter of one of the doctors in PGH - "anak ng diyos" as they call it. Intarmed also, open only to the top 100 qualifiers of UPCAT.

Oh I'm thinking regular courses. But yeah I have one cousin from Zobel that didn't get into main kaya nag CSB I thought that was rare. I always assumed na pag LSGH or DLSZ it would be easy to pass main.

I think kahit anong klaseng tutor, guidance and support kung hindi talaga matalino, wala din talaga.

Hiring a tutor is like teaching kids to cheat ... After graduating and there are no more tutors, they won't do so well in life ...

I wanted my daughter to try to get into Pisay, just like any alumnus would like to. However, I could never push her to be like me. She likes it in OB and as long as she’s enjoying school, I am good with that.

When I entered my first job with a global consulting firm that had a preference for the big three (UP, ADMU, DLSU), I felt challenged. I found out that it’s not the school but the people with the right attitude. There are a few grads of these big three that boast so much of their schools but in fact, they are just as plain an any other folks from other less-popular schools.

Pisay though, I feel like we got a pool of really sharp people out there. I would say sharper than the pool of people met when I was studying in UP Diliman. Too bad the government still can’t provide great opportunities for such talent coming out of Pisay.

Thank you for this. Plan to transfer my bunso from smc to mapua na sana. Don't like pisay style of online classes now. Hindi busy yung bata, mantalang my private student son, ang aga pa gising na for online classes.

    Lipat mo Main.

As much as I appreciate Pisay's efforts to set up a campus per region, right now there's still a gap between the quality of education between the main campus and the regional campuses.

I say this with hindsight because in college, there are far more achievers from Pisay Main (in terms of both count and %) than from regional campuses.

Hopefully in 10 years the gap closes, but the reality is that today - Main > regional.

That's next to impossible jut, number 1 bunso. 2 pandemic. 3 process to transfer and slot availability sa main. Talaga naman behind ang SMC sa main. Okay na lang din kami rito, sana improved pa nila. Proud parents lang ako sa sinabi ni Egan.

Pisay-SMC ba anak mo? It used to be just Pisay-MC. Pareho kami alumni ni JohnM dyan. We turned out fine and I don’t think we’re behind.

Not once but twice sir. Hehehe!
Yes, dalawa pisayers ko. SMC na ngayon, maybe because of other campuses dito. Baka dati isa pa lang.
SMC ata second to Main when it comes to achievements? Kaso ayaw mong pumayag e. [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]

    i had a chance to compare ma-sigh and pi-sigh.
"mas hasa sa dusa ang gradweyt ng ma-sigh."
nasa escuela na nang alas-siete nang umaga...
nasa-escuela pa nang alas-sais nang hapon.

    but yes,
school is only part of it.
the more import part, is the student itself.

Does school really matter?
