Yup, marami. Case in point, One hacienda 150 hectares. The grandfather passed away, the 5 kids got 30 hectares each, fair split. 2 heirs used to living the good life sold their share. The other 3 kids, all with families divided the remaining land to their children. The largest share was at 7 hectares na lang.

Sad, but true story. Gold plated names ........... empty bank accounts.

Kaya ayan people do what they can to project wealth.

but helping people isnt the goal for most people chasing wealth. it's taking care of one's self and family, it's only when you've reached a level of enlightenment when you start thinking of helping people

"It becomes wrong when people do immoral and illegal acts in their quest for wealth."

yes it's wrong but to many people the end justifies the means

"It seems like people are valued now based on their looks and wealth not values and character."

    moral degradation

if that is a agricultural land, there's not much money there. In today's worth each of the 5 heirs could only get a brand new car or a down payment for a house. That's about it.

In the old, established clubs, they really consider the "standing" of the person applying to be a member (Polo Club, Baguio Country Club, Manila Golf, etc...) Hindi ata nanood si Packy ng Caddyshack.

Yan ang mahirap. Inheritance then you have no ways or means to make the money grow, then you continue to live the glorious lifestyle.

Word was that the family of a certain former president was also somewhat headed that way (riches to rags), until they got the presidency.

I know a lot of stories as well. Either babae (too many illi children) or plain slacked off ang reason. I know some people who grew up rich who pursue careers that do not make much money such as music or arts. Hindi na lalago pera sa kanila.

It depends also on where the "hacienda" is. In the case of Negros, some of the Haciendas before are already well within city limits (One family friend sold a portion of theirs to the Ayalas) . Kaya yung mga ninuno namin ni LSB, dating naka-libing sa "outskirts", ngayon nasa gitna na sila ng main road. :D

Image is important kasi sa corporate. I remember so well my Kuya told me about power dressing. People will treat you seriously if you dress the part. BUT you don't need to spend on designer clothes to look neat and presentable naman.

Naalala ko talaga tinuro samin sa school to carry a good pen when we start working. I don't follow that anymore. But I guess the older traditional type still do.

irregardless of where it is as long as agricultural and under land reform, no choice. There's only a retention of 5 hectares. The rest goes to the farmers. As what happened to hacienda luisita (tama ba spelling). teka, ot na. hehe

Si Hacienda Luisita, hindi kasi pumatok masyado yung pag-industrialize and commercialize/develop. ;)

    OT:

That actually depends on what you plant. Sugarcane needs at least 10 to 15 hectares to be a viable income generating crop. If I had 7 hectares, I'd raise cows, chickens, and goats nalang.

Betcha don't know how much land Danding owns in Negros, wala sa kalingking-an yang Luisita.
