As earlier pointed out, were talking about foundation here. Old dogs can't learn new tricks. These are the things you use subconsciously everyday. It's like riding a bike, eventually you do it without figuring out how to do it, you just sit and pedal to cruise.
Example, Chemistry, at least, you know you cannot drink Liquid Nitrogen coz it will freeze you in seconds. hehe.
Mathematics, is the language of the universe. Numbers drive this world and the galaxy it's in.
IMHO, what should be done with Elementary and HS education here is to implement Montessori system in them. Montessori is the most efficient learning system I've had when i was young. Similar to UP Diliman except that when i got there, i got shocked with the culture which was very different with Montessori's conservative teaching.
from experience, you can easily ace these subjects even Physics and Calculus given more effort coupled with the right instructor. There are so many teachers who are intelligent but poorly hands down knowledge or have little idea on how to do so. This is where parents come in. You need to teach your child and continously monitor his/her progress if you want to raise a winner in life. One cannot be "madiskarte" without knowing the basics.

take for example, mga HS dropouts na galit sa magulang at nag-car racing. ganun pa din direction nila scientific. car specific measurements, dynamics, technical specs, etc ... if we are to analyze that, mas ok pa foundation ng mga 'to kaysa sa mga schools. in the future, most of these boys will take a mechanical to technical course to enhance their skills. and neither DECS nor parents will force them na. voluntary na yan.

hindi po lahat ng nagpapatakbo sa mundo ay analytical o scientific to get a job done. that's one thing we should all learn.
let's take for example, a boy student who wants to get access to an important online resource sa isang private company. the problem is the private company does not handout the resource that easily. one must work for it or search for it on his/her own. there are numerous analytical things a boy student can do. if he is good with computers, he will surf the massive company website from general to specific until he gets his info. imo, that's being analytical in a sense, coz he went thru the system; link after link, word for word, eliminating relevant or irrelevant resources, save related/semi-related documents to his harddrive, then analyze all data later if it's useful.
but take for a example what a girl student will do, she goes to the company address. she talks/interviews personally to guards and rank and file employees. if she is gifted with the arts (charms), she might even get to talk to a supervisor. at the end of a day, she gets a printout, a disc and a key to the company. puwede sya ulit bumalik kasi first name basis na sila hehehe
same analogy, with analytical hackers who hack passwords to get it in and steal another person's property. compare this to a girl who is armed with nothing but praises and admirations for another person. to the girl, that is the password and our world is filled with these girls/boys who drive fast cars, sleep in luxurious hotels, eat in expensive restos but they are not footing the bill.
