40 ft. Shipping Container as house

hmmm. Sana this can be my next project. Im just trying to figure out how to transport these things and the crane that will lift them into position all the way to the the beach area. My property is on a slope pa naman . But it looks cost effective and I dont want to spend too much money on a place that I would visit 2x a month at most . Buti na lang walang restrictions in the area that I bought in . I cant afford the developed resort developments (Anvaya, Pico de Loro, etc) hehe .

Or you could try 2pcs 20ftrs and just join them together.

An empty container can be moved with a fork-lift, although a crane would be more flexible if you have a two or three layered structure.

I agree with you * gh, fork lift is the easiest or you can either ask for a tilt tray rear discharge or a side loader.

tried calling a sulit seller ng mga container van and i was told that you would need a forklift, crane of specialized lifting equipment to transfer a 40 footer. pero yung truck na may boom crane na lang or yung nati-tilt yung flat bed kung 20 footer lang.

Well, if it's empty, the load would be simplier to get around. As long as there are no sharp turns, a large truck can make it.

Or you could try 2pcs 20ftrs and just join them together.

It would cost more and the joining two units (lengthwise) wouldn't still be the same as a single 40 foot.

I was talking to a contractor, sabi nya sa akin why settle for a 20 ft. when you can buy a much bigger 40 ft. that you'll only need to add few thousands pesos.May point sya pero delivery lang talaga ang set back ng shipping container.

Just ask for an ocular survey that will be the easiest things to do. Kung may problema sa delivery there's still a lot of people to ask for assistance.

Even my wife likes the idea now. Been googling images of simple rest houses you can build with these things. I think i would need maybe 7 pieces to accommodate friends and their kids as well. But i agree i can save a hell of a lot of money. Finishing, cladding, plumbing, earthworks, glass, doors, tiles, electricals....cant avoid those.

Been dreaming of finally being able to afford to build a simple beach house in the property i bought . I hope i dont get derailed again. Am just worried though as the property is in a slope beside the beach. The terrain in Anilao is really mountainous.

when i was still in the Phils. working in construction wayback 1993, most of our site temporary facilities, offices and accomodations are made of this 20 and 40 footer container vans. it's convenient and a cost saving to construction companies because they can used them from one project site to another. even when i worked in the middle east, most of the accomodations or labour camps are using these container vans.

You'll have to look at the foundation preparation as well. There are other options for low cost construction such as prefabricated concrete panels which you can also look into. Have have an engineer evaluate the foundation and soil testing done, get an estimate for the different types of construction/home methods you can use (including traditional CHB) then decide from there.

Maybe you can use the slope to your advantage to have a "stepped" style layout for the containers?

Anyway, the slope shouldn't be a big issue since you can have a simple level platform/base constructed on the site to support the containers on the slope.

Dapat kasi lagyan ng insulation yung walls and ceiling of the container to prevent heat from getting in from the sun-exposed sides. Given it's used as barangay office, the walls would either be bare metal or just plywood covered with no insulation used.

The ones i see at our sites have plywood walls with insulation insulation inside. You also have to wire it up for the electricals, install plumbing, etc. The company stopped using these already though and now use prefabricated slabs which can be knocked down and rebuilt/reconfigured as they need larger and more flexible office space on-site. If your space needs are not too great then this is okay.

The Erap City near C6 uses these container vans in a stacked-up configuration.
