    According to carscoop:
With its compact, lightweight body and substantial power generated by its 2.3L MZR DISI TURBO petrol engine, Mazda3 MPS is one of the most powerful high-performance sports compacts with front-wheel drive (FWD) on the road today.
So its a high powered FWD car... torque steer?
Good thing Ford decided to make the Focus ST AWD.

Torque steer on a FWD car doesn't really get bad until you hit the +260hp range, like on my HKS Plymouth Laser RS Turbo (281hp). I've come to the point of avoiding stoplight launches because the car is a handful even when gripping the wheel with two hands. But back when it was stock with 190hp/205lb-ft torque/2800lbs curb weight, there was only very mild torque steer.

I imagine the Volvo is a well-balanced car. So, torque steer may not be a problem although wheel spin might still be. Even our 3.3 Sonata at 235hp tends to spin its wheels (especially when my wife is driving) because much of the torque is at the lower power band. But, torque steer is non-existent.

The 160hp Mazda3 I test drove seemed well-balanced. Of course, it was hard to push the car really hard because the dealer was sitting next to me. So I wasn't able to play with the tires. But, we're talking about Mazda here. Most of their designs seemed well-thought out. If torque steer is a problem with the MazdaSpeed3, they would've made it AWD.

Nope. It's uneven loss of traction because of the tires spinning. RWD V8's can fishtail when the rear tires are spinning with no traction. Imagine that happening up front....Grrr.

But once the car is moving, it's all zoom zoom. With a turbo... when that boost kicks in, it's more like WHOOOOSH! Feel the rush.

It's so cool... it will torque steer itself into a stoplight.

But what the heck, atleast you crashed in a Mazda 3, not some other car.
