I forget, the Mazda3 weighs a bit more than 2800 lbs which is still low for a sedan. But even the MazdaSpeed Protege has a better hp to torque rating.
A car with over 200hp and a turbo should have a hp to torque at least near 1:1.

1991 Plymouth Laser RS Turbo stock: 190hp/205 lb-ft

1991 Mazda MX6/Ford Probe GT (turbo4): 145hp/190lb-ft

1993 Toyota MR2 Turbo: 200hp/200lb-ft

2006 SRT4: 230hp/250lb-ft torque

2006 Mitsu Evo: 286hp/289lb-ft

2006 Subaru Impreza WRX: 230hp/235lb-ft

Maybe Mazda is being conservative about its figures.

Oh. I've seen a stock MazdaSpeed Protege hit sub-7 seconds 0-60mph repeatedly (at the strip). Of course, that was also on a cold, High pressure (clear skies) November. Turbos love that kind of weather, very frisky and just wanting to rev and go. They're also more "lethargic" during the hot summer months.

The Mazdaspeed 3 and 6 are the Mazda Performance Series in EU... in Japan, same cars are the Mazdaspeed Axela Sport and Atenza. (there is no Mazdaspeed 3 sedan, only a Taiwan 2.0S trim that was being marketed as a mazdaspeed thing... even the Mazdaspeed bodykit will only fit the 5door)

There's one engine too I think, only the 3 has a less boost compression than that of the 6, I think... 2.3L tuned to 220hp (probably 6-7psi lang, if we compare it to the HiBoost turbo for the 3 that when tuned to 10psi pumps the 2.3L engine to 280hp - 20ps to 500hp)

labas na sa Geneva show 2006. ang official hp rating ay 250hp! wow, that's just 26hp shy of the AWD Mazda Speed6. mukhang di na talaga papatalo ang Mazda kahit sa Honda Civic Type R for Europe.
