Good day folks and many thanks for the inputs! Already shopped for 626 parts for my B22 but will heed your other suggestions. Great help on the specific shops sir gerivic, will check them out soon. Sir duskylim, already considered converting to diesel power since mas mura kesa gasoline, but really would like to retain my truck's original state. Besides F2 engines are reliable, tingin ko carb problems lang and yung kakakalikot ng mga unscrupulous shops na na-encounter ko kaya ang hirap ng mag-diagnose kahit meron akong shop manual. Yung tipo bang na-bastardo ng ibat-ibang kamay kaya ang hirap ng kapain, kailangan back down to zero and start all over again then na-cannibalize pa habang naka-storage . Anyway, I'm not giving up since mahalaga sa akin si Betty, first major investment ko kasi, ako naka-cherry. Thanks again!

consider getting a Weber carburetor part number TEK-675. it's $499.94 but now on sale for only $298! very good investment!

    Dear VX9:

Another option, rather than the Weber carburetor is to use a Mega-Squirt electronic fuel injection system - far superior and combines both fuel economy and power!

Another bonus would be that you can easily re-program the thing for LPG!!!!

    Dear Ronn:

Go to the MegaSquirt web site for the latest pricing. There are several kits available.

The cheapest is the do-it-yourself kit (you do the soldering) for about USD $180 (again check the latest prices).

But if you're not confident doing your own delicate soldering (on to a PC board) and reading the wiring diagrams, then get the pre-built kit - about USD $350.

Mega-Squirt (by Bowling and Grippo) is a open-source engine controller and can control NOT JUST your injection, but also, Ignition, and several other engine management tasks.

    The kit does NOT include:

    1) the injectors - you can use from 1 to 4 but the system can control up to 8 injectors. Prices vary - you can source these locally easily.

    2) the sensors - Inlet Air Temperature (IAT), Exhaust Gas Oxygen (EGO - wideband), Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP), Mass Airflow (MAF), camshaft and crankshaft position sensors, throttle position sensor (TPS), etc. - again prices vary - all available from the US.

Go to the website - it makes excellent reading.

    Dear Ronn:

I have a friend with a talyer who specializes in BMW's (older models), who is planning to install MegaSquirt on his personal ride - hopefully soon.

He's asked me to help with the installation and I can't wait.

Will give you guys updates on the progress and results.

Meron din mga guys daw (sabi niya) sa may Sucat-Makati-Alabang area who have these installed on their rides, ask around daw.

    Regards,

    Dusky Lim

    Dear Ronn:

Sorry to disappoint pero agreement namin for the initial development is that di ko pwede i-share muna ang mga mutually-developed MegaSquirt tuning techniques.

Sabi nya kasi for him its a bread-and-butter issue, kaya pwede daw pang personal use ko lang muna.

That said, I will be glad to assist in any project that needs my help.

    Sincerely,

    Dusky

PS - I will be going to Bagiuo from Sunday to Wednesday this week. I will be online again sa Wed or Thurs. For those who can come, hope to see you there - just text me for a meet.

I will also be trying out my new modifications to my Water-Methanol injection system. This should be fun. he he he.

PPS - Filled up for the Baguio trip, 28.8 liters for 328 km = 11.388 km/liter (NOT BAD) all city driving, kasama na mga hataw natin last EB!

Still taking orders for additive, post nyo lang or better PM me.

    Hi Guys!!!

Greetings from Baguio. Medyo malamig lang (almost 30 deg C pag lunch time). Avoid SM Baguio - parang Divisoria sa dami ng tao.

That said - OK pa rin!!! Dami chicks....ganda ganda.

Just went up to attend a meeting and visit a friend.

Filled up the tank to the brim with diesel and additive.

Came down and filled up again.

Total distance run 628 kilometers. Total diesel consumed - 47.43 liters out of a 56 liter tank - my remaining fuel upon arriving in Fairview was about 8.5 liters.

Average diesel consumption for the trip is 13.24 km / liter.

With hataw pa yan along NLEX and SCTEX up to 150 kph and the AC on all the time! Most of the time my average speed was from 80 kph to 100 kph.

Of course I was able to use my water-methanol injection system to the fullest. In fact I used the trip to help find the best settings and tuning for it.

I also used up about 3.0 liters of 50/50 water/meth. I re-filled the water/meth tank twice from my reserve bottle.

Along with the additive, the water/meth system gives the best results during the hottest parts of the day - 10 am to 5 pm.

The cooling effect of the water/meth plus the extra fueling make the acceleration stronger and crisper.

The extra power makes for easy overtaking/passing and smooth pull.

I believe it also improves the fuel economy.

Going to the meeting, I got lost and ended up at the bottom of a very steep valley.

But with the water/meth on NO PROBLEM, despite what looked like a 35 - 40 degree incline I put it in 1st and didn't look back.

The pickup climbed that kilometer long hill without any trouble whatsoever.

    Best Regards,

    Dusky Lim

Nice! That's a fuel efficient mazda truck! How many hours did it take you to travel from Starwood Hotel (Kisad Rd, Baguio) to NLEX Balintawak tollgate?

    Dear Ronn:

Sayang kung kailan pareho tayo nasa Baguio di pa tayo nagkita.

I was originally planning to stay until Wednesday but events changed my plans.

When I saw the dark clouds forming overhead sa Baguio, I decided to leave early before noon.

    What worried me was:

    1) driving down Kennon Road in the rain or dark and
    2) the broken bridge over the Pangasinan and La Union river border.

Because the central 3 spans were down, you have to drive over the river bed to get across.

That's fine in dry weather, but impossible if it rains. The possibility of being stranded decided me to leave early.

We left Starwood Hotel at about 11:30 am, arrived at SCTEX entrance past 2:30 pm na - why?

My architect friend and partner Roland Serrano and I constantly try out new routes (and canteens) whenever we take an out-of-town trip.

So when we reached Pozzorubio, Pangasinan, we didn't take the standard MacArthur Highway route but went straight towards eastern Pangasinan via the Magilas trail, Asingan and Binalonan to come out past Carmen-Rosales and re-joined MacArthur highway at Moncada, Tarlac.

We had lunch at the Binalonan town market.

For all you novices, here's a little secret - Binalonan is a charming agricultural town and is one of the largest hog and chicken farming communities in Pangasinan.

The town market has an entire line of lechon stalls cooking Bunuan bangus, fresh hito, lechon manok, baka and pork liempo along the main road.

The prices are reasonable and the food is fresh and good. Point at what you want, bargain a little, buy and then go to the canteens at the back.

Order rice, sinigang or bulalo soup, a few soft drinks and enjoy a simple, hearty meal.

There are places to wash up behind.

This is one experience not to be missed.

    So don't say I didn't tell you!!!

Driving the back roads of Pangasinan, Tarlac and Nueva Ecija is a great way to see the countryside.

At the entrance to the NLEX, I was almost in an accident.

A brand-new Vios in front of me swerved to go to a different lane, then stopped - parang nawawala, I drove past him and pumila ako katabi nya.

The girl in a new Honda behind me didn't stop and literally plowed into him, pushing his car mga 15 feet!

Luckily no-one was hurt but both cars had considerable damage. Oooooo.

Sabi ni Roland, kawawa naman sila - huwag tayo tumawa ng malakas.

I arrived in Manila at about 5:30 pm. Totally beat. Still recuperating.

    Regards,

    Dusky Lim

PS - we stopped for coffee at the Caltex station complex along NLEX, the one with the 7-11 sa harap. I like that one because they have a free ice dispenser. Just buy a 2 liter bottle of any softdrink, some plastic glasses and you can get all the ice you want.

    * dusky: sayang di tayo nagkita. ran errands for my mom kasi. dami work kahit bakasyon. ang init pa! sayang din, isasama pa naman kita sa slaughter house for lunch. sarap ng food dun! well, sa uulitin na lang baka makauwi kami last week of may or june.

i don't know the back routes of pangasinan... masarap pla dumaan dyan ah. b-series fun run tuloy vacay sa baguio?

buti na lang luck was on your side kung hindi kayo ang nabangga pero kawawa naman yun mga naaksidente.

    got baguio pics?

    Dear Ronn:

The B-series fun run idea sounds great. It may be a problem to find common free time sa groupo however.

That said, a summer drive is the perfect way to use our pick-ups, lalo na if we take the more 'scenic' routes na hindi masyadong kilala.

As I have been driving for a long time, (matanda na kasi), I often get bored using the same old roads, fighting the same bad traffic.

My dad is from Dagupan, Pangasinan which is why I often find myself driving north.

So when may kasama akong game, I try to develop new routes.

I plan my routes using road maps as well as Google Earth and Google Maps.

The bad thing is that most maps are out of date.

Google Earth's maps are 2002 at the latest, so walang SCTEX. Google Maps is more updated but doesn't show many smaller side roads.

My latest experimental route north is to exit NLEX via San Fernando and Mexico, Pampanga and then use a highway through the Mexico-Magalang-Concepcion road to end up at La Paz, then to Victoria, then Pura, then Ramos finally to Paniqui, Tarlac.

From my computations, that should be shorter than the conventional route, but slower kasi its agricultural and not highway.

If anyone is game, I'm ready to go!

    Best Regards,

    Dusky Lim

    Dear Ronn:

Will drop by the WTC after visiting some Chinese warships at Pier 13, South Harbor.

If anyone's interested, the 2 vessels are a Type 054 Frigate and a its AOR - underway replenishment vessel.

They just came from deployment off the Horn of Africa and are making a port visit here on the way home.

BTW just in case, I am bringing 12 bottles of additive for anyone who's interested.

    Regards,
