A friend and I are considering having a road trip this summer from Manila to Vigan. I've never tried it, but I'm game.

How exactly would you get there though? And which sights would you recommend for our weekend stay?

    Thanks in advance

You would require just a day to tour Vigan,-> Cathedral, Crisologo St. (old houses) and Baluarte....

I'd say you drive further north to Laoag. You can go to Paoay Church, Batac, Mansion Of The North, Sand Dunes, Sinking Bell Tower, Cathedral, Fort Ilocandia, etc.... It's just an extra hour from Vigan.

And if you have time, drive further north to Pagudpud. It's just an hour from Laoag.... You can pass by the Burgos Lighthouse and the Windmills along the way.

How do you get there? Just drive along the National Highway... You'll never get lost.....

Mga 9-10 hours yan bro. Depende sa number of stops. Ingat lang at may makikitid na portion with bad shoulders, if any.

manila to vigan, 8 to 9 hrs drivng pero kung madami kayong stop over it will take more than 10 hrs. maliit lang ang vigan maiikot nyo agad yan less than 2hrs, kung nasa vigan na kayo dont forget to eat there beside the old church, specialty nila is bagnet im sorry i forgot the name of that restau pero nag-iisa lang yun sa tabi ng simbahan.

i suggest after vigan punta na kayo ng ilocos norte (vigan is in ilocos sur), puntahan nyo ang wax museum, fort ilocandia its in batac ilocos norte then from laoag punta kayo ng Pagudpud about 4hrs lang from laoag. Great beach great place to relax dun na kayo magstay overnight, you will love the place/beach in pagudpud. ito yung Boracay of the North.

Good luck and bring extra power ma-test ang driving skills nyo dyan.

plus 1.... kung pupunta sa vigan at may extra time pa, sulitin na at dumiretso na sa ilocos norte dahil madami pang tourist spot duon like pagudpud, paoay church and malalacanang of the north, mosoleum at museum ni marcos for ilocandia... at syempre wag kalimutan kumain ng kilawin, dinakdakan, empanada at pinakbet.... para kumpleto bakasyon nyo

correction lang, bro. laoag to pagudpud is only 75 kms, more or less, and it's only one hour drive from laoag to pagudpud.

Plan route is NLEX then SCTEX. From SCTEX exit ako Santa Rosa-Tarlac Road then pakaliwa to Mc-Arthur Hiway (Tarlac City) via Balingcanay -> San Manuel -> San Jose -> Maliwalo. Safe ba dumaan dito if manggaling ako ng Manila 12AM? O mas safe from SCTEX then Luisita Access Road? Thanks

Or you can try exit at San Fernando then Mc Arthur highway through Tarlac city. Mas maiksi ang distance travelled dito kesa sa NLEX-SCTEX-Tarlac City by 10km.

Mas mabilis takbo mo sa superhighway pero mas mahaba ang distance (x). Say average ka ng 110kph sa superhighway versus 90kph sa Mc Arthur, it is a 10minutes difference infavor of superhighways but cost you around 160pesos of toll.

Sa Mc arthur, just incase of troubles especially that time (12mn) meron kang mga options dahil it is a common highway.

    Happy trip!

I think so too, but in the summer lang. I hate to think of cleaning my undersides of road mud. I remember seeing a dusty W108 parked at a roadside house after that long bridge in Carmen. Garaged, and up on wooden blocks.

I'll ask if its for sale next time. :D
Those look pretty with the quad headlamps.

Yeah, it's a PITA cleaning mud off the car. That's why i got so miffed when the contractor repairing the road going into our subdivision used soil to fill up the digging (it was a hoot though thinking how the Porsche and Ferraris of the congressmen in the neighboring village will get through that... hehehe).

    Nice option din.
Pambihira ako gumamit ng Nlex through slex road, waste of money with little bearing on travelling. Kung walang speed limit sa superhighway, baka sakali pag nagmamadali!

Thanks guys. I'll just take either of the usual provincial bus routes (going to Ilocos) then.

Option1: All the way to NLEX Mabalacat exit to MacArthur Hi-way.
Option2:All the way to NLEX Mabalacat exit -> Mabalacat-Magalang Road -> Mabalacat-Concepcion Road -> Tarlac City.

From Manila to Vigan, where do you usually have stopovers for re-fueling, and buy/eat food?

    Thanks.

The Petron station near the La Union/Ilocos Sur boundary has the cheapest gas prices (among the Big 3).

Or mas ok stop over sa Baguio muna.
Baka kasi wala makuhang hahalili sa pag drive eh. Tnx.
