Ang nakita ko sa map ay via Pangasinan kaso mas malayo. Worth it kaya yung added distance?
Kung via Asingan naman, dadaan pa din ng Pozzorubio at Binalonan.

Via Dagupan lang maisip ko. If the traffic is really bad then it may be worth it.

One would have to veer right in Rosario to San Fabian to avoid Pozzorubio, bypass the traffic in Dagupan by going Mangaldan-Sta. Barbara Road, then left to Urdaneta to rejoin Manila North Road, or take Sta. Barbara-Malasiqui-Bayambang (though you'll end up in Camiling this way).
Mas kumplikado at mas malayo ang ikot nitong detour na ito.

    Here's my trip report hehehe

From LB, Laguna going to Baguio:

We took the normal route. NLEX-SCTEX-TPLEX (Paniqui) then McArthur HWay then Kennon.

We left Laguna at around 330AM. There was heavy traffic at SCTEX and TPLEX toll gate ( we wasted maybe around an hour combined at the toll gates). There is the expected road construction along McArthur Hway (Pangasinan Area) resulting in some delays.

We arrived at Baguio at noon.

    From Baguio to Laguna:

I was worried about the traffic in Pozorrubio so I looked at other routes. So I convinced myself to take the other Pangasinan route. Not just to avoid the traffic but also to explore and experience driving at that part of the country. I've been in some parts of Pangasinan so I'm a bit confident.

So we took Marcos Hway then to Rosario then right turn at the Kennon-McArthur junction. This road took us to Sto. Tomas, La Union junction. We turned left to San Fabian, Pangasinan. We passed by the towns of Mangaldan, Sta. Barbara and Malasiqui in Pangasinan. Then Bayambang and Camiling in Tarlac. From Camiling we turned left to Paniqui then to TPLEX.

The road is very good in this area. Some are two lanes the other have four lanes. We traveled there at from 1:30PM to 3:30PM. You can definitely travel 80kph or faster in many parts of the highway. Some slow areas are the town center. Other than that, the road is clear.

It took two hours from the McArthur-Kennon Junction to TPLEX Paniqui. We were lost for around 10 minutes in Bayambang, Tarlac. I set my map to Panqui-Ramos Road upon reaching Bayambang and instead of pointing us to Camiling, my GPS map took the nearest roads which are small barangay roads. My suggestion is to set the destination town by town in your GPS map if you plan to go up to Camiling. Otherwise, it might might take you to Manaog or somewhere else. Or set the route before hand.

GPS map will very helpful especially if you are in a hurry. But the direction from San Fabian to Camiling to Paniqui is quite straighforward so even without a map, you will not be lost. You can always ask the locals in the town centers if you get confused.

Here the route I took which is around 40kms longer than usual.

More details of my Baguio trip during the long weekend. I left Mandaluyong at exactly 12:50 a.m. on Friday, a holiday, and there was heavy traffic on EDSA since everybody seemed to be headed out of the capital. I spent about 30 minutes until EDSA Balintawak. I arrived at Petron in Rosario, La Union at exactly 5:23 a.m. I started going up to Baguio via Marcos Highway an hour later, at 6:23 am. I arrived in Baguio (near U.P. Baguio) at exactly 7:25 a.m. So that's exactly 5 hours and 35 minutes from Shaw Boulevard in Mandaluyong to Baguio City.

My route was EDSA > NLEX > SCTEx > TPLEx > Paniqui-Ramos > MacArthur Highway (all the way, no detours) > Pugo-Rosario >Marcos Highway. I thought the roadblocks on MacArthur Highway were manageable and trying to avoid the bottlenecks was not worth the trouble .

Going back, I started on Session Road in Baguio at exactly 7:35 a.m. on Monday, and took Kennon Road going down. I arrived at Petron Station in Rosario, La Union at exactly 8:30 a.m., so that's 55 minutes. Took the same route on my way back and arrived in Quezon City at exactly 12:11 p.m.

For comparison, EDSA Balintawak (1:20 a.m.) to U.P. Baguio (7:25 a.m. minus 1 hour at Petron Rosario) took 5 hours and 5 minutes. Driving from Session Road in Baguio (7:35 a.m.) to EDSA Balintawak (minus the 17 minutes I spent at Petron Rosario) took 4 hours and 19 minutes on a regular Monday morning.

I'll post some videos with GPS coordinates of the roadblocks as soon as I find the time. Thanks to all those who contributed to this thread.

    P.S.
Don't forget to stop by the Pandesalan (on your right, after Petron, in front of Caltex, for hot pandesal) when you reach the foot of Baguio in La Union. =B)

    Cheers,
    Norman

^ A few years back alam ko meron pa. My boss took the plane to Baguio then drove down to La Union for a site visit. They should upgrade and maintain that airport though as during calamities, that's the best way in and out of the area.

Wala nang commercial flights years ago pa. Last time I was there dumaan pa ako sa tarmac. Dinadaanan na ng mga sasakyan yung tarmac for short cut to cross the other side.

About a decade ago, we landed at Loakan Airport. Our (small) plane took off from Manila. We were doing benchmarking with TI Baguio, and working on university tie ups with UB and SLU.... Going back a few days later, we took the bus....

Kala siguro naka Funny Car sila; may parachute yun diba?

If the airport isn't in use much anymore, they should keep cars off the runway. That will destroy the tarmac and what if there's a car going through and a air transport is landing like what happened at another airport before?
