I would have prefered having awd at that instance. On my Sportage 4wd crdi, I never felt the same losing traction, especially on that smooth asphalt road, moreso it was zig-zag.

ser bimparts, pagkaka-alam ko ang AWD system ng Hyundai/Kia ay decoupled sya most of the time.. except when it detects slip at slow speed -below 40kph. . . But there's 4WD button to lock (engage) rear differential. Useful when u want to power out of mud;sand... then again it disengages at higher speed.

Ser TogaLock, Sparcom2, welcome ser. So mukhang off sa lahat ang March/1st week.

a corner carver by the name of Toyota '86 (the Subaru BRZ twin) get my

i tried to give him a good chase and over-took him on some occassions
only on the straights.... but unfortunately he's car is just too good around
the bends. plus (whoever he is) thumbs up to his driving ballz....

there was one incident though that i was chasing him and was too hot for one

120kph in Caringgal Maharlika hiway (close to Nueva Ecija/Vizcaya?) and with
the well paved asphalted section i lost grip momentarily and already heard the tires
fighting for traction.....it was kind of a close call (shouldn't do that again, haha).

anyway since there's alot of pictures, i just selected a few in thumbnail sizes for
    viewing below....

Thank you for explaining. Sorry i really did not know the advantage of having AWD and 4x2 model. I actually wanted the 4X2 variant only since wala naman ako balak mag off road and i was thinking na it might be more fuel efficient. A friend explained to me that at regular driving, it works like a front wheel drive vehicle. Then if you loose traction, the rear will compensate daw. Please correct me if i'm wrong.

Btw, how was your fuel consumption on your long distance trip parakitoJDM?

ser sagingsaba, IMHO kaya ser ng 20 inchers nyo. the road was surprisingly good as in konting konti lang yung ginagawang roads na medyo rough....
and yung may short section sa Nueva Ecija /Vizcaya na asphalt road may lumubog sa tire sides...suspect ko sa sobrang init and sobrang bigat ng trucks/container vans plying that route.... so either u ride the Crest or just stay on that lane. hehe.
saka short section na yung concrete road block by block may konting height elevation.... so it maybe perceived as digital waveform like road undulation....hehe, hirap i-explain.... pero kasi u have to know where i'm coming from....i'm used to travelling Manila-Bikol (South road) there roads are really less than ideal...so relative to that its really good.

ser bimparts tama po yung pagka-explain sa inyo....para din sya more or less Honda's realtime 4WD system...it works like FWD most of the time w/c helps u save gas.... unlike Subaru's Full-Time 4WD that always drives all wheels....(O.T. used to be they'r a gas Guzzler,,,now seems to have been solved by switching to CVT tranny)....

eto nga pala ser yung fuel consumption post ginawa ko about dun sa roadtrip....
    http://tsikot.com/forums/kia-cars-ta...8/index14.html

i think just trust the manual calculation..resulting to around 11.8kpl, medyo overly optimistic yung trip computer at 13.8kpl...

ser IMHO, kayang kaya ng 20inchers mo....kasi relative fm. my normal provincial road trip (MNL-BIKOL) the road up north is really much better...
no major potholes, just a few section of unpaved roads and far in between sila....

and though may konting section sa Nueva Ecija/Vizcaya na parang natunaw yung asphalt dahil sa init and bigat ng truck/container van...so yung edges ng road ay may tire contours...dun mo lang idaan...o try to ride the crest...then you're ok....

ang medyo annoying lang ng konti...may 2-3km siguro na yung placing ng concrete blocks ay parang di pantay pantay....yung dulo ng isang block ay mataas siguro about half in than the next connecting block.....each block siguro mga 10m....if ur travelling 80km/h and above parang UP-DOWN UP-DOWN ka .....

over-all talaga the roads are pretty good...sabi nga nung hotel manager...the road fm. Banaue to Sagada has improved considerably (compared to last time i went there) ngayon kahit daw Sedan kaya na...mostly cemented section na sya...dati mga 6hrs...ngayon kaya na daw 3hrs. lang...

pero going to Bikol, Ilocos...i would suggest the 17"...

ser tama understanding nyo....close sya to Honda's Realtime 4WD system. wherein it works as FWD most of the time lang...iba sya sa Subaru's AllTime 4WD.....pero advantange ng former ay supposed to be better fuel consumption as it minimize drivetrain losses...

eto pala details ng F.C. for the whole trip.
    http://tsikot.com/forums/kia-cars-ta...8/index14.html

pero as a summary, based on manual calculation turns out i did 11.8kpl (tipid pa din considered na SUV dala 'ko...)

redoing this response 3rd. time...sabi daw my answer needs to reviewed by Administrator...hhhhm dahil siguro sa URL na kasama...
anyway yung details ser andun sa Kia Fuel Consumption thread....

pero as a summary 11.8kpl for the 700km++ journey....sagad ko talaga one tankful...medyo kinabahan nga ako eh...kaso sabi sa distance to empty when
i entered NLEX on the way back eh may 120km pa daw...

Nabasa ko ito sa sportage topic, i think same applies with sorento

Just to share my experience with 4WDs (since I've had 4WDs Cr-V, Fortuner and Sportage), most are "part time" or will kick in only when the sensor detects slippage in traction in the rear wheels, unless a 4WD button is engaged. Otherwise, these function mostly as front wheel drives. But my experience with these is that it is in those instances that one precisely needs both front and back wheels that it engages to give one better control and not just more power (which one needs for off roading). But on the subject of power, a friend told me about an article in Top Gear that Front Wheel drive actually generates more power than All Wheel drive since the power is distributed across all four wheels in the latter, while it is concentrated on just the front in the former. On a straight road race, the Front Wheel drive actually wins.

Reason why you may ask? i could get the a set of 4 (wheels only) around Php26-28k shipped to Manila....now the question is it worth it? or just buy fm. shops in Manila?

A. for FWD and AWD vehicles really show the latter does take a small toll in economy....

oo ser kasi sa additional weight ay malaking factor...i think 4WD easily adds 90kg to the weight of the vehicle...that's two petite ladies or one big dude that taxes the engine, acceleration & fuel economy suffers a bit!

Yes, you're right about the additional weight of the 4WD mechanism. But I think it is in the "distribution of power" why the FWD will generate and concentrate more power.

Pero mukhang ok lang kasi sa Tire Rack - Your performance experts for tires and wheels may 20" for ET35 din..

Ser sagingsaba, orig KIA/Mobis daw eh... so quality should be good. Ahh nadale ka pala. .pero good thing di binutas gulong mo.
