May 20th, 2013 10:03 PM #1313Hi to those who replaced their timing belt: I heard from my mechanic that the timing belt should be replaced together with the water pump pa isang bukasan lang ng makina!

May 23rd, 2013 01:43 AM #1314some engine components are so hard to get at, mechanics routinely recommend their replacement every chance they get. the cost of the labor far outweighs the cost of the part. examples are the transmission release bearing, some timing belt idlers.. but the water pump? i'm not so sure...

^ thanks for the info sir jching. Need lang magcreate ng account para maview..
May maingay sa engine bay ni carens for the past two weeks. Pinacheck ko sa casa num 1, ang diagnosis is sira yung bearing ng ac compresor at kailangan palitan ng buo which costs around 30k. Next pumunta ako sa isang talyer for a second opinion at ganun din ang diagnosis. Duda pa rin ako pero nag inquire na ako online about the cost of the dowoon compressor and it costs 16.5k.
Kanina, pinunta ko sa ibang casa for a third ang final check. Ang diagnosis is sirang tensioner bearing which costs 3.5k plus 1.5k labor. Sometimes it pays to follow your instinct.

I'm a bit disappointed with my Carens. Or rather, I guess it's a bit expected in a way. My Carens just hit its five-year mark this month and seemingly like clockwork, the aircon compressor breaks down, I hear some rattling noise in the engine bay (might be the same thing that Hanren experienced), and just the other day, the fuel gauge seems to be broken.
On the aircon compressor, I had it checked and estimated at Kia Alabang and as expected from a casa, their quoted cost estimate was in the range of P65K!! I wanted to throw the quotation back at them! My dad had his aircon compressor replaced in a small shop in Cubao and it only cost him P23K. I'll be going to that shop later today to have my car checked.
On the fuel gauge, I filled up the other day and have already been to Muntinlupa and back to QC and today, driven to Mandaluyong, and the fuel gauge still says that I have a full tank. I'm hoping that this is just a fluke and will correct itself the next time I fill up. Otherwise, there might be something wrong with my fuel gauge sensor or whatnot.
Hay...
