I think the question you need to ask yourself would be for what specific purpose would you need the vehicle for.
you need to determine what do you expect the vehicle to do for you. do you need it as a people carrier alone? how many people? do you expect to bring cargo? what type of cargo? do you expect light or heavy cargo? do you expect to bring it out of town to places where the roads are rutted?
i thinK the carens does have great value for money but in the end, it'll all a question of satisfying your 'wants' and 'needs'. this will be one of your guides in your final choice. along with 'budget' of course.

Depende kasi eh, the Trekker is a truck so its much more suited for cargo and hauling. The Carens is a family MPV more suited for carrying people.

Maybe you can invite them to view this thread.
The 79k price difference might be offset by the high trade in value. Just try to ask for a nice and practical deal from any Kia dealer. Baka may discount pa.
Your partners concern are valid but in the end, tell them that the Carens released here is the same as what is currently in the US and Euro market (sans other features i.e. side airbags, etc). Marami ng improvements na nangyari.
The Carens is a nice family MPV. I have no complaints so far. Power and performance - very reliable especially on overtaking and uphill climbs. Comfort - rides like a car! Seating capacity-It can fit in 7-9 medium sized passengers inside. Aftermarket value-Kia has made strides in its vehicle technology but unfortunately, people's perception about Kia is still "jurassic".
I brought mine not for its resale value but because of its value for money.
In the end, depende kung anong type of business ang meron ka. But if you intend to haul some goodies, you can also completely flat out the 2nd and 3rd rows.
Better value for money IMO-Carens
good luck!

Thanks for the reply peeps!
Actually, im in a cargo/freight forwarding business..just started nga eh. So budget and value for the money, not to mention making the right choice, is really a factor.
We won't really use the car for hauling coz we have trucks to do that. We are planning to use it for our sales and marketing trips. It usually involves long distance travels (CDO, Gen San, Davao provinces and more), giving free rides to visiting agents and clients, company outings, and making good impressions.
While im writing this post, my partner is bugging me about the resale value and ground clearance. A lot of unpaved roads sa province eh!
Anyway, thanks talaga sa feedbacks guys! Feeling at home na ako dito ah! Really planning to get a new company car this January.

December 12th, 2008 12:00 AM #2945for your purpose, I think the carens is a better fit. I was once a doubter of kia/hyundai until we bought a carens. ganito lang opinyon ko e, once a car company penetrated the US/European market and been accepted well, that's a sign that their product is good. I don't have the data but, I can tell you that I personally see a lot of kia/hyundai in those places I've been to. Particularly, I see quite a few number of Rondo (carens in the US).
Now the sad part, just under a year ago the LX is selling for only 875K now it's selling for more than 1M. I think the carens, with its current price is at least 50K overpriced. I'm sure if it the price of carens LX is 925K (or lower) it would have the edge as you think it over the trekker (or innova, or livina). Sana in spite of this e i consider mo pa din ang carens. Pag hindi e, pang 3rd ka na sa alam ko na bibili sana ng carens kundi lang sa sobrang greedy price increase ng columbia.
sorry.. mga carens bros.. laki na talaga ng galit ko sa columbia. sana matauhan na sila soon. they are destroying a good brand because of their greed.

i agree with u sir.u cn put me in as the 4th person u heard of to back out of a carens deal. ive been reading this thread for quite some time now, and im happy for the lucky ones who were able to buy the carens at a bargain price.a time where it was indeed a great value for ur money. but now, i feel it is so overpriced.BASTOS na ang dating ng columbia.i backed out of the deal as a matter of principle. though i really love the carens, i refuse to be conned by the greedy columbia people.while others are slashing their prices, they added another 10,000 pesos from the last time i inquired! and to top it off, i compared the carens with the other available mpv's and auv's at the car show i went to,the carens lacked important safety features like dual airbags and ABS.a lot of small features from the previous models were also gone, adding insult to injury. i saw other mpv's that had airbags and ABS at least 200,000 pesos cheaper (though they were ugly, i have to admit).
i dont mean to offend anyone.im just airing out my sentiments. i feel so bad because i really wanted this car.but i cnt help but feel cheated and betrayed if i buy it. i wasnt able to buy it a couple of months ago because i could yet afford it.but now that i could, these things happen. the sales rep explained to me that it was because of the prices of steel and other raw materials that made the carens expensive. i cnt believe this because other car brands cn afford to slash their prices by 100,000! i would have been more willing to buy the ex crdi if only dual airbags were available and ABS as well.
anyways, thanks for finding the time to read my sentiments.i hope kia realizes this mistake and make up for it. then i might reconsider...
God bless us all.

don't worry iohannes, no offense taken. i too felt they raised their prices too soon. when everybody else is going down to get market share, sila pa nitong nagtaas. ewan ko ba. they must know (or NOT KNOW) something. hay...
HOY COLUMBIAN, TRY KEEPING YOUR EARS CLOSER TO THE GROUND FOR A CHANGE!!!!

December 12th, 2008 09:00 PM #2948just imagine, the carens lx m/t is now more expensive than an innova E a/t. I know the carens is the better car but c'mon... it's just not right. masaya ko nakabili kami ng carens nung mura pa sya.. pero sana mas madami pang tao ang sasaya kung di lang sobra sobra ang price increase ng columbia.
I would like to reiterate na dito lang sa Pinas sobra ang price increase ng Kia. Its easy to veriy, price list are available in each country's website. plus there are forums to checkout. Also, note that I am not comparing the prices of the car, but rather the (rate of) price increase (say compared to 8 months to 1 year ago). E kahit hyundai hindi naman ganon kalaki price increase ah.. (note the prices of getz/i10, tucson, sta. fe as compared to the price increases of picanto, rio, carens; to columbia's credit hindi sobra ang increase ng sportage)
hirap e.. ina advocate natin ang kia to be "the cheaper, but better alternative" tapos sasamantalahin lang ng columbia. columbia must do it's share in making the brand competitive.

December 13th, 2008 09:04 PM #2949as BERTOBOL has said.. KIA offers better trade-in value to his car.. you should consider that offer.. like for example you will buy the trekker and yet you have sold your trade-in car for a very low price.. but when you buy the carens you get a better trade-in deal.. you should also consider that in the price difference...
* BERTOBOL, since you will be catering more to people rather than cargo.. better buy the carens compared to trekker (or any people carrier car)... trekker will surely ride like a truck and may turn-off your clients after a very bumpy ride.. (baka mag back out sila kasi nahilo sa byahe)
but im also sad that columbia have increased their prices too much.. it loose to the better value affordable car...
carens only lacks dual airbags and side curtain airbags (just like in other countries) but for the ABS feature, remember that the carens have 4 DISC Brakes so this can equate to the lack of ABS feature (which is really more needed for disc and drum brake combination)
