I was in the market for the 4x2 so in terms of looks, I immediately ruled out the Hilux since it terms of engine and exterior, it really couldn't grow on me. So what was left were Strada, Dmax and Navara. Of course at that time, price also came into play. As much as possible, I want the all in one package. For Strada, the bed is too small for me but the price is so reasonable particularly for the GLX variant considering that it has a powerful engine as well. For Navara, it is kinda pricey and I was kinda wishy washy on the 6 speed engine but overall, that is my kind of truck. Good looking, powerful engine, the wow factor is there. Then Dmax arrived in picture. Everything that I am looking for in a truck, I found it in Dmax, well as far as this generation is concerned. The looks, the engine, the size of the bed, size of interior, everything, the price is mediocre so I said I will get this one.
Now for the power or performance, I would say that it's not the fastest truck out there but it I could say that it could really run but don't expect to feed dust on the vehicle, particularly on the same level, if they want to give a little adrenalin rush. So much for the racing mode, if you're the kind of person who drives only from point A to point B and doesn't give a damn that even a biker could outrun you, well this truck would be way over your expectation. Its engine is powerful and very responsive. As I have said in my previous post, I peaked 174 kph and to me, that's already too much speed, though I want some more, considering that it's a truck. For fuel consumption, this one it varies on your driving style. If you drive like there is no tomorrow, don't expect it to give you the extra miles. But on the average, to me it registers around 12.5 km/liter. On its 1st 1500 kms, the most that I reached was more than 1000 + kms on 1 full tank. I just couldn't remember on the exact figures but back then, I was only on the 80 to 100 kph mark. For maintenance, I really couldn't comment on this yet since it is too early to tell. I haven't even reached my 3rd PMS yet. For the prices of the PMS, it's already posted so just look on the previous posts for reference.
For the others, I guess they are marketing gimmicks in terms of the radio or freebies but all in all, all the trucks that are in the market right now are at par with each other. In the end, it is still up to you on what really fits your taste and needs. Goodluck in your pickup hunting and hopefully I helped you in choosing the Dmax as your next vehicle.
