i also read the article, and all i got was a big headache.. i'm no economist..
so i beg for answer..
so bakit ayaw nila magtayo ng factory outside of korea, kung makakababa ito ng presyo ng kotse nila, making it more affordable, and ultimately, translate to higher sales and profit?
at anong kinakatakot nila sa mga hapon at ayaw nila gumawa ng kotse outside of korea?

unless... what they really fear is, if they manufacture their cars abroad, the demand from their in-country factories will drop, making these factories non-viable... forcing them to close down the home factories, resulting in un-employment and a general feeling of civil "unrest" in the home country..

During the Asian currency crisis of the mid 90's, I remember Koreans giving up their jewelry, and moneys back the the national government to help fix their dilemma. Not only were they able to rise up immediately, but they became a global industrial superpower with their homegrown formula.

They'll damn their government if the industrial giants just give up their local jobs. Unless they're really overwhelmed that they'll agree to give up these jobs, like Hanjin shipbuilding yard in Subic. Pricing of the units is only secondary to them, IMO. Besides, customers are still buying their products in droves, and they can still supply us with more to spare.

And unlike Jap brands that have already saturated American markets, Hyundai is still focusing on gaining a foothold there and in Europe, so I would assume that going aggressive in SEA isn't the top priority right now.

sucks! Design looks like a Hyundai Santa Fe.. how would you know the difference in the road? Hyundai should aim for uniqueness not uniformity... just like Toyota has done with its SUVs.. all have different look and design. LC - PRADO - FJcruiser - SEQUOIA - 4runner - Fortuner - RAV4
