my more than 3-year-old civic makes thudding sound during cold starts in the morning and according to honda, it's caused by the engine side mounting touching already the engine frame. estimated cost is 9,500.00 for a new engine side mounting and labor. do i have other options? thanks for your help, honda gurus, though i'm really disappointed that there's already need for a replacement considering the car is only 3 years old and the mileage is only 30,000.

What ? I have a 3 year old civic yet it doesn't have such sound. Tahimik pa rin, despite it's 39,2xx mileage.

You might want to bring it to Honda SPA to have a second opinion.

same problem here, did you get it second hand?? if yes, tampered ang mileage niyan. baka hindi talaga sya low mileage, had mine fixed sa cavite, kay mel casaba, 6,500 iyung engine support original, iyung labor, 500php, very low...

medyo disappointing nga for a car with a high resale value hehe. parang ang bilis naman nasira ang engine mount but anyway..

malamang yung rubber sa engine mount ang worn out or maluwag na. since isang set ang pagbili nito kaya ang mahal.

it is a known flaw ng FD ang defective design ng right side engine mount. It usually gets broken at around 25T -35T kms of normal city driving. So yung mga low milage na civic lugi kasi by the time na masira yan tapos na ang 3 yr warranty.

2007 pa lang naglabas na ng service bulletin ang honda to replace the defective side engine mount. A lot of FD's were affected but all of them were covered by warranty. Honda released a new engine mount with a different part number. However this new design still failed. The cost of the mount kung babayaran mo was 5.5k. So in April 2010 naglabas sila ng isa pang service bulletin to use another part number. The cost of this engine mount is 8.5k kung hindi ka na under warranty. Honda claims na mas matibay na ito keysa sa dalawang naunang design.

I have a 2006 1.8 and my milage is only 30T kms. Unfortunately for me hindi kaagad nasira ang orig mount ko during my warranty period at kahapon napansin ko nga ang vibrating sound na malakas kapag naka reverse tapos naka tapak sa brake (a/t). I checked the mount at basag na ang rubber part at tumapon na ang fluid sa loob.

As of now hindi pa sigurado kung ang new design released last april ay magiging matibay na. So nakakatakot gumastos ng 9k para palitan ang support na yan kung masisira din after 3 years. So I sourced this part and found out that HRC banawe has a replacement side engine mount para sa FD, both 2.0 and 1.8 and it only costs 1500 pesos. Other shops also has this JAC brand which sells for 1700 pesos.

The difference is that replacement mounts are solid. it does not have fluid inside kaya baka magkaroon ng engine vibration. Though ang claims ng mga nakapag kabit na ng replacement support eh minimal naman daw ang vibration. Check out sa www.teamfd.com.ph may discussion about engine support since 3 years ago.

Ako susubukan ko muna yung replacement. I think for the price difference it is worth trying.

You need to remove the air filter assy to access the tranny mount. Once naluwagan na ang tranny mount, tsaka mo pa lang pwede higpitan ang side engine mount. Then pag mahigpit na ang side engine mount bolts tsaka hihigpitan ang tranny mount.

thanks for the inputs! based on the replies, if i get the part in banawe and avail of the labor in cavite, the total cost will only be 2k instead of 9.5k in casa. so everything's okay now with your ride, bong06? you can vouch for mel casaba's workmanship?

This procedure was taken from the OEM shop manual. Being a DIY junkie and with an empty wallet, I decided to replace the side engine mount of my FD all by myself and I would like to share it with everyone...

    TOOLS ANDMATERIALS NEEDED:
    - Crocodile Jack
    - block of wood
    - 10, 14, 17, 19 mm socket wrench
    - 10, 14, 17, 19 mm combination wrenches
    - socket wrench extension 6" or longer (the longer the extension, the easier for the mechanic)
    - Anti Sieze grease or any grease
    - Torque wrench upto 76 ft-lbs

    PARTS NEEDED:
Side engine mount part number 50820-SNB-J02 (replacement part, not OEM)

    PROCEDURE:

    1. Support the engine with a crocodile jack and wood block under the oil pan.

    2. Remove the bolt (A) securing the A/C line, then remove the upper torque rod (B).

    3. Remove the ground cable (A), then remove the side engine mount bracket (B).

The bracket (B) maybe hard to remove because the weight of the engine pushing it against the broken engine mount. You may need to jack up the engine by a few millimeters in order for the bracket to become loose. Once the bracket is removed you will see the engine mount torn!

Imagine that.. the engine is no longer attached to then mount! :o If you see a crack on the side engine mount replace it immediately!

    4. Remove the side engine mount stiffener (A), then remove the side engine mount (B).

Saludo ako sa DIY but I don't think I have the skills to risk it. How long does mel casaba finish installing the engine side mounting? Gusto ko sana same day makuha as it's for the daily use of my wife to and from her office. Kaya daw ng one day sa casa. Thanks!

kung ako first time ko ginawa yan, following the printed installation procedure sa manual step by step it took me 2 hours to complete the job.

Sa Honda SPA in 1 hour kaya tapusin.
