    maiba, nakita ko lang when browing FB this morning. Had my previous ride HID retrofitted by Garyhq hidretrofit.net (including fogs) and the best setup I did, haven't had driven the Civic on really dark places. however I find the headlights better compared with other with halogen lights, cut off was not comparable with the projector but seems to be okay with me. Pero wala pa akong tint, ewan ko lang pag may tint na.

    Honda Civic, Jazz, and HR-V Score Poorly in Latest Headlight Evaluation Test

    The US-based Insurance Institute for Highway Safety or IIHS just released their 2018 headlight evaluation and things are looking dim, literally, for owners of the Civic, Fit (our market Jazz), and HR-V. These three Honda models are among the 40 other models tested by the IIHS to score a “poor” when it comes to their headlights.

    Other notable cars with “poor” headlight ratings across variants include: the Audi Q3, Chevrolet Malibu, Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger, Ford Explorer, Hyundai Accent, Jeep Renegade, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class, Toyota C-HR, and the Toyota Yaris iA (a modified Mazda2).

    The IIHS says that when equipped with the best-available headlight option, 32 of the 165 models evaluated this year earned the highest rating of “good,” while 58 models earned “acceptable” ratings. This is a far cry from the agency’s first-ever headlight test done in 2016 when only 2 models earned a good rating.

    When a single model has several different headlight configurations, the IIHS tries to test all of them. They are evaluated for both nighttime visibility and reduced glare (to both driver and oncoming drivers). Good-rated headlights are considered to be the first step in gaining a Top Safety Pick+ award.

    Observed by the IIHS, headlight performance differs greatly between a model’s trim lines. Case in point is the Kona. Equipped with LED headlights, they illuminated almost 450 feet (137 meters) of straightaway road compared to 220 feet (67 meters) in the halogen-equipped variant. The IIHS considers 325 feet (100 meters) illuminated by 5 lux to be optimal.

    The IIHS says that only the Hyundai Genesis G90 and the Lexus NX are the only models to come with “good-rated” headlights no matter the trim line while the Chevrolet Volt, Genesis G80, Mercedes-Benz E-Class, and Toyota Camry all had “acceptable” ratings when equipped with their most basic headlight configuration.

    Headlights are essential crash avoidance technology. About half of all fatal crashes in the U.S. occur in the dark, and more than a quarter occur on unlit roads. Headlights have an obvious role to play in preventing nighttime crashes, but not all headlights perform their job equally. Differences in light source, headlight technology, and even something as simple as how the lights are aimed all affect the amount of useful light supplied. Properly aimed low beams light up the road ahead without temporarily blinding drivers of oncoming vehicles.

    Subaru is among a handful of manufacturers that made running changes to certain 2018 models to improve ratings, mostly by readjusting headlight aim. As a result, the Crosstrek (our XV) moved to a good rating from poor for its best-available headlights, the Forester climbed to acceptable from marginal, and the Outback rose to good from acceptable. Other manufacturers that made similar running changes are Hyundai/Kia, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen and Volvo.

    The IIHS also notes that High-beam assist is quickly gaining traction with 45 percent of the 2018 models evaluated having the feature, up from 37 percent in 2017. High-beam assist automatically switches between high beams and low beams, depending on the presence of other vehicles. Vehicles with the feature get extra credit in IIHS headlight evaluations.

    new purchase for me should at least have an iihs safety pick plus rating.

    Anyone here using regular oil from casa? “Press release” kase ng SAs na mabilis dumumi, like 3 months or so...

    The LED headlights are sufficient for city use. I have light Vkool OEM tint.

    Pag highway or high speed driving, I tend to use the high beam.

    Kulang yung throw, haven't had the time to manually adjust the aim. Baka masira ko yung auto-levelling.

    Coming from stage 2 HID retrofit ni Xenon concepts, it is miles better compared sa stock LED headlights, which is less intense, less width and throw.

    this is what the report said:
    Low beams

    On the straightaway, visibility was good on both sides of the road. On curves, visibility was fair on both right curves and inadequate on both left curves.

    The low beams created excessive glare.
    High beams

    On the straightaway, visibility was good on the right side of the road and inadequate on the left side. On curves, visibility was fair on the gradual left and both right curves and inadequate on the sharp left curve.

    High-beam assist compensates for some limitations of this vehicle's low beams on the straightaway, on both left curves and on both right curves.

    Not from Honda but with other brand, IMO. it's normal na dumudumi yung oil. Mas ok nga na indicator to dahil alam mo na nalilinis nya yung engine parts mo. And it does not mean na marumi eh hinde na effective yung oil. Most important is to follow the recommended PMS schedule.

    i agree.
    i would be alarmed if the oil does not darken after some time of use.

    Concur, too. For Direct Injection Engines, GroupIV synthetics are generally better at pushing build-up back. Worth the extra expense if car is planned to be kept.

    Maybe my standards for headlight performance are low but I find the Civic's LED lights to be one of the better ones out there for its segment. It's really hard for fixed-reflector lighting systems to meet the IIHS' criteria for left curve standards. Lahat ng na drive ko na kotse with OEM lighting ito ang weakness, compounded by the driver side A-pillar partially blocking the left field of view. Left-turns and roundabouts are especially tough on poorly-lit provincial roads. The built-in driving lamps (commonly mistakenly called fog lamps) of most cars do a better job at illuminating near-field left side areas. It seems inherent weakness ito ng beam pattern. Only adaptive systems could really meet or exceed those standards without presenting excessive glare.

    I think LED matrix headlights that can selectively illuminate parts of the road depending on real-time driving conditions is the way forward as they offer better precision and are cheaper to integrate vs. servo-driven adaptive systems.

    Sabi rin sakin ni garyq and tots na mahina ang stock LED ng Civic.

    But in my personal experience, my Civic stock LEDs are sufficient and comparable to my retrofitted Mazda 3's HID:
