    I think it's a good idea. Brake lights on their own give no indication of how hard the vehicle in front is braking, when you see brakes and hazards that means the car is slowing down big time.

    The use of hazards in this case is also similar to their normal use of warning other vehicles that you are stationary, or in an emergency stop situation about to become stationary.

    I am actually doing this manually ie turn on the hazard signal, under hard braking condition. Then manually turn it off once the traffic starts moving or the vehicle behind me has properly stopped or has aligned with the traffic...
