I think the U turn system is just a bandaid solution for people who do not obey traffic lights. The more bandaids you put, the uglier it gets. Not all "wounds" needs bandaids too, like the one in Libis.
Just my opinion.

Partly effective, and not... but we can't blame MMDA at all..
1. Yung mga jeepney ginagawa syang left turn instead of U-turn causing more traffic...
3. Ayaw magbigayan...gusto laging mauna sa iba..
4. Counterflow in U-turn...
in the part of MMDA...
1. Please use relectorize paint to avoid accidents at night... yung pink nyo eh hindi kita... yung mga paint na gamit nyo kita lang pag malapit ka na,,, pati nga yung ibang street signs di n a=na reflect sa head lights... I dont know kung pinagbawala na yun ...pero dito sa ibang bansa reflectorize pa rin..
Just like the Yosi kadiri campaign dati...I think its effective... kasi hangang ngayon tanda ko pa sya...
3. Stop all the kotong... ang make sure that no one is above the law... Kahit na "8" ang plate nya.. hulihin nyo...
Yup, my main complaint also is hindi reflectorized yung paint ng mga concrete barriers, Mahirap makita sa gabi. Ang problema pa, there are certain streets and highways in QC na busted yung streetlamps (certain stretches of Commonwealth & Quezon Avenues).
For certain areas effective, like in Commonwealth.
I pass by this area everyday for the past 1.5 years, and I can attest that it has made traffic flow a lot easier
its a stupid idea, utterly waste of taxpayers money...
Sir,
magkano po commission niyo diyan?![]()
I pass C-5 Libis almost every night and I prefer the closing of the U-turn slots in the Libis area (as was done in the past month) as it frees up the traffic flow for majority of the vehicles going to Marikina, Q.C. and Cainta. Those that were affected are mainly the ones going to Greenmeadows and Eastwood but the traffic flow from the Ortigas flyover to Eastwood has improved vastly so the time to make a u-turn at the end isnt much of a hassle.
I agree, they should install flood lighting and make use of flourescent paint (reflectors get stolen) in the U-turn slots for the safety of motorists... and please install more pedestrian overpasses on roads where the U-turn slots are implemented.

i am for the current u-turn system in libis. i pick my girlfriend up everyday at eastwood from commonwealth qc and traverse the whole stretch of libis. traffic is much faster now and honestly, i dont mind the extra few minutes since tuloy tuloy ang flow. dati kasi u-turn ako before eastwood and swerve dangerously to the back way of eastwood (yung may police station)
however, i have some friends complain that during rush hour, both u-turn slots get clogged because of the volume of vehicles going to marikina and ortigas extension..worse in the ortigas extension u-turn.
maybe a u-turn somewhere in the middle (jollibee intersection) can solve the clogging of both ends
The U-TURNS are okay with me.
What annoys me are the damned greedy (mahilig dumiskarte) drivers that hog the u-turn slots.
1. They come from the middle lane and only decide to go to the left lane pag nasa u-turn area na.
2. They make the U-TURN on the outer part of the curve and try to cut off those who queue up properly and make the u-turn on the inner curve.
3. Once they finish the u-turn, they immediately swerve to the right to get to the right most lane. Because of this, drivers who are going straight would not allow u-turners to merge in para hindi sila mag swerve.
In some areas it can be a big hep, in some, its a major pain. I think there sould be a sign board "Beware of Crocs".
If you are approaching a u-turn slot and you do are not suppose to be there - TAKE IT and then pray that the next one is close by.
Along Marcos Highway (going to Antipolo), there are simply too many U-turn breaks which allow PUJs and trucks to queue on the leftmost lane. This inevitably congests the highway since these vehicles clog the innermost lane and the next 3 lanes.
bali-baligtadin pa din, jeepney saka puv pa din problema! hindi u-turn. kaya nag-lock sa libis dahil sa mga jeepney before eastwood and jeepney before flyover
Ws thinking of that too... try to open up a lane in the open portion after the Jollibee intersection for cars going back to Libis; at least here it's not that congested as there are no commercial establishments in that portion.
TIP: If you're on the proper lane to make a U-turn and a person does a double on your right side, just go down a little more before making the u-turn apex. ;)
Well, it depends on the location. The U-turn slots along C5/Libis are a pain in the neck. I also find those on Quezon Ave to be the same problem. And their common denominator - the jeepneys waiting in the wings (outer lanes) and turning at the last minute (executing virtually a left turn just to enter the slot).
It's good because may improvement naman talaga sa travel time.
We've been complaining day in and day out of the traffic and I believe that the U-turn system is the only solution that made a major effect in the reduction of traffic since the advent of the flyovers.
Of course, it is not a perfect system, but now I can't blame the MMDA for doing nothing to alleviate the traffic in MM. At least it reduced the number of stop lights that will definitely cause traffice jams. You just wished that a lot of drivers would know how to use the u-turns effectively. One major concern is that most drivers turn immediately once they reach the u-turn, thus when they reach the other lane, they have to wait for a break in the oncoming traffic whereas MMDA had already blocked off a lane for the cars managing the u-turn.
I made an illustration which I believe is the wrong way (1) and what should be the proper way (2 & 3). If drivers could do this always, and do it at the proper speed (not slow), I think the u-turns will be more effective.
My travel is from Makati all the way to San Mateo, Rizal via Marikina. Before when there were the U-turn. Travel time take me from 1:30 up to 2 hours. Without the U-turn, my travel now is about 1-1:30 hour. Further there is a remarkable savings of fuel as shown in the fuel gauge.![]()
