April_Ryan,
a manual transmission is a little bit more economical with fuel, and you may find that it is more fun to drive... but other than that, an automatic transmission may come as a big relief if your driving is almost totally in the city. hindi ka masyadong mapapagod in traffic with an A/T kasi hindi mo na kailangan mag timpla ng clutch... just brake and go, brake and go.
it boils down to your preference na... an A/T or M/T will both last long provided they are used and maintained properly (an A/T will be much more expensive to repair in case it breaks though), and there's actually no difference with the flood-wading capabilities between the two.

regarding the Opel, i've sort of reconsidered, in part because after sales service and parts may be a bit steep for me.

although, what i really want (later, when i can afford and purely on looks, using the "what makes my heart skip a beat" criteria), is the Ford Escape or the Nissan Frontier or Ford Ranger, all 4x4's and all fully loaded with the works.
have never been keen on a sedan, except that my profession sort of demands that i be a little more sedate in my ride. medyo stressful din so a comfortable ride would really be helpful, and i can't get that with a pick up.

April 20th, 2003 12:36 PM #56April-Ryan,
I use a Ford Ranger 4X4 TD as a daily driver and 2nd car (demanded by my line of work) its fun, pulls like a freightrain, is the cheapest and is the fastest / most powerful in its class if I'm not mistaken. Plus, in the inside you can barely hear the rattle of the diesel engine when idling. I'd recommend it to you if ever you get a pick-up / 4X4.
Downsides are few but noteworthy for me. Lousy fuel consumption (for a diesel) and seats that lack thigh support are my main complaints, then too much chassis pitching under heavy braking.
Standard spec is good (dual airbags, cd-HU, and on newer models ABS as well as the option of an A/T on the 4X4 TD like the Frontier) and it does feel almost indestructible.Parts for the Ranger are cheap too.

April 20th, 2003 01:44 PM #58When you learn how to heel-and-toe downshift and master double de-clutching (a dying art), you will tackle every corner, whether slow or fast using this technique. ;) Also makes street driving more interesting and smoother.

RS Sprint,
you would seriously heel-and-toe in street driving?? double-clutching is pretty much redundant now with synchronized transmissions hehe

Even more questions.
Friend of mine recommended I get an "agent" if i intend to buy a new car. Sabi sa akin, i can get a better deal through the agent than if i just walk-in. True? How do i find one? Didn't know there was such a thing.
Is it ok if i don't buy the insurance in house? Cheaper ba if i get elsewhere?
btw, ford prices just went up 10T. more price increases pa daw. bummer.
Had my 2014 Altis repaired by Tireman PH in Gen. Trias, Cavite last Wednesday. Nawala na yun...
