Oh no... I was really keen into buying an ecosport by December. I was quite excited mainly because of the decent ground clearance and water wading capability. But reading some of the horror stories about it, parang ayoko na. I'm really after the high ground clearance dahil sa lubak lubak dito and madaling magbaha sa labasan ng subdivision. Ayoko naman mag suv dahil quite frankly I'm not that good sa parking. I currently drive a city and it still takes me almost a minute to reverse Park. Imagine if naka fortuner pa ako or montero sport. Baka maging 2 minutes pa hahaha

Kakalabas lang ng ECo ko today dahil pinagawa ulit sya (2 hits na) because of this poor DCT issue. Brand new ito last year Oct lang , imagine. IMO, masyado mabait ang general users in handling this issue. Cguro kasi extended ang warranty kya di pa masyado ramdam ang impact, or maybe di sya directly related sa impending accidents kya mild ang issue, and the FORD still enjoying and confidently selling these types.

Then get the manual to avoid dct issue. Ive noticed lang in most ford dealers na madaming stock na titanium regular or black edition as well as trend a/t. Yung trend m/t regular or black edition ang mabilis maubos. Maybe it has something to do with the dct issue.

It's because people buy more automatics. Between the certainty of having a fatigued left leg in traffic and the low chance of encountering DCT issues, people still go for the latter.

In fact, I haven't seen any widespread problems with the Ecosport DCT except that people don't know how to use a DCT. It's not the car's problem, it's the drivers who can't adapt.

EcoSport went on sale here in early 2014, I believe it already had the updated Powershift software and mechanicals.

I've always preferred manual transmissions though.

Most folks don't even bother to read the manual.

So yung DCT problems are caused by users? Pero kung ganon siya ka prone sa "user mis-use/mis-handling" then diba design flaw na yun?

DCT drives more like a manual tranny. It needs a bit of practice to modulate gas pedal input. Also, it adapts to the driving style of the primary driver of the car.

Sa youtube madami din complaints regarding sa transmissions ng ford focus & fiestas sa US which is the same transmission used on the ecosport.

The issues were more common on the older PowerShift Fiestas (pre-facelift) and pre-facelift Focus models.
The EcoSport went on sale here in 2014, this was after the software and mechanical updates.

Ford Philippines sells about 7 times more EcoSports than Fiestas, if there was still a big issue with the PowerShift, I think there should be 7 times more reports as well (which I think isn't the case).

*The facelifted ASEAN/Philippine-spec Focus (now with a 1.5 EcoBoost) has a torque converter automatic (designed for higher torque).

Fair enough. Still, being one of the consumers with a problematic Fiesta DCT, I cannot help but be very, very wary of committing to another vehicle with a similar transmission.

So far, on my 2011 Fiesta Trend AT, Ford has replaced the TCM once under extended warranty. I have brought the unit to the casa more than 10 times, whenever the Check Engine and/or Transmission Control Malfunction warning indicators come on. I have limped the unit home from QC to Pangasinan in 3rd gear twice.

It's been a few months since Ford replaced my Fiesta's TCM. The unit now has 90,000-km on the odometer, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Nonetheless, I can't deny that I find significantly fewer online complaints against the DCT Ecosport, so maybe there is reason to be hopeful that my second Ford vehicle will make up for the challenges I endured with the first

The EcoSport variant without the spare tire at the back was meant for the European market (which is made in India instead of Thailand), this version has a tire repair kit. The version with the external spare tire is still offered in Europe as an option.

The upcoming 2018my(?) EcoSport facelift will still have a version with a spare tire as seen in these spy photos.
